What amazing conference #ICHS2024, really deep-dive in circular hydrometallurgy, but with an open mind towards the industry and the great motivation to greenify processing. We have learned a lot and it was amazing we could give a presentation together showing the different lithium refineries and their environmental footprint. We can greenify the supply chain at lower investment costs and lower operational costs. Lower investment costs mean also lower CO2 footprint, but this is unfortunately not taken in count in the actual LCA's. Chapeau for the Organizer Koen Binnemans, Peter Tom Jones and Rabab Nasser. Green Lithium has arrived. Time to de-carbonize the lithium supply chain Founded in 2021 as a clean-tech company, Lithium Ark is recognized as the inventor and developer of both the Blue and Green lithium Refining pathways. These pathways minimize or entirely eliminate waste from lithium refining in the supply chain. Further, the Green+ Refining process holds the promise to entirely de-carbonize lithium refining itself. This was an intensive week! We had a great presentation in DLE conference in München where we presented our LCA results. We are so glad that Greener have not to be more Expensive, even it can be significant lower in costs. So we are on the road to spread the good news. We still have 2 weeks more to go in our roadshow in September: 1st International Circular Hydrometallurgy Symposium - ICHS 2024 https://lnkd.in/emFiey-y This would be great, really looking forward to go to real technical conference with all professors and doctors. The week after we go to a more commercial conference: Fastmarkets BRM in Amsterdam, here we are doing our commercial work as we learned that marketing is definitely art and can be more difficult and even more expensive than developing a process. Lithium Ark wants to greenify the lithium supply chain, taking reagents out of the supply chain, but with lower carbon footprint, therefore we developed and patented a new innovative process using conventional equipment, but let the chemistry work for us in it outmost efficient way. We suggest that the extractors or refiners produce lithium hydroxide directly from lithium chloride. Aftermath Fastmarkets Las Vegas Lithium Conference Lithium Ark was nominated for the Volta Awards of best project. Unfortunately we did not win. En general we really want the lithium supply chain to win, and to reach this goal, we still have work to do and learn how to market our technology to achieve our mission “ decarbonize the lithium supply chain” at the lowest operational and investment costs. In case we would win, I had a short speech prepared. I really wanted to dedicate the award to my parents. In the months before the conference, I lost both parents within a time span of 43 days, and this is and has been a difficult period. My parents have been a great example of unconditional love, love that also gave me the freedom to grow, explore the world and end-up in the world of lithium. The Green+ process has been developed with the “Nobel” feeling. My son started to study Circular engineering at University of Maastricht, a new career were the students start with the mindset of a circular economy, eliminating waste streams and optimizing reagent and energy usage. The expansion of the lithium production applying the actual process is not scalable, and the environmental impact is already getting significant in Chile and Argentina. As process developer, I felt the moral obligation to design an innovative process, that avoid the reagents use and can simply use preferable green energy. For Chile, Argentina and Bolivia with a future production over the 550,000 tons of LCE/year will results over 1,200,000 tons of soda ash (Na2CO3) shipped (mainly) from the USA to the South American generating waste halite on the Salt Flats, which seems ironic The complete supply chain will be depent on the supply chain of sodium carbonate. Then we expect also a future requirement over at least 250,000 ton/year HCl 33%. While the brine sources are slow to get in production due to technical, economical and political reasons, China is filling their kilns with lepidolite, emitting up 33 times more CO2 than the Ark Green+ and as results setting a new lithium carbonate price coupled to their production cost of processing lepidolite around the 14,000 USD/ton. Applying the Green+ process, lithium chloride can be the new intermediate product, the extractors will have lower investment cost, less environmental impact at the mine site and higher margen, resulting a faster time frame to get the project financed and up and running. The lithium chloride is the perfect feed material fro Green+ to make lithium hydroxide or lithium carbonate. Lithium Ark will continue to preach their solution fro decarbonizing the coming year.
