Arrivedeci Milan! Last week, Alexander van der Mark, Gertjan Meutgeert, and Martin van den Heuvel visited Enlit Europe. What are their takeaways from this buzzing event for the European energy industry? Martin: "It was great to be at Enlit and to talk about realising the energy transition. There were interesting lectures about AI, digital transformations, and European energy projects. After drinking many espressos, meeting old friends, and making new ones, I came home with tons of inspiration." Gertjan: "Also in Milan, #flexibility was on the agenda. Electrification and renewables are driving challenges like congestion and intermittency. This makes flexibility crucial for limiting curtailment and optimising grid access. During my visit, I noted several key enablers to encourage (even more) flexibility. It was great to meet so many people and to feel part of a bigger community." Flex, flex, flex still tops the agenda. Our expert Ksenia Tolstrup gave a keynote on flexibility economics at the Energy Storage Global Conference in Brussels this week, organised by EASE - The European Association for Storage of Energy. She highlighted a potential new revenue stream for flexibility providers if support schemes are introduced. The Electricity Regulation adopts a very broad definition of flexibility, and the TSOs and DSOs are involved in drafting the specific flexibility needs assessment methodology. Ksenia: “The future energy system will require a lot of flexibility from a broad range of technologies. The newly updated European Electricity Regulation puts flexibility at centre stage. And rightly so.” Want to deep-dive into the implications of the updated European Electricity Regulation?
