𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐱𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐫 On Saturday, October 5th, Marel and MSD in Boxmeer hosted a fun-filled day packed with experiments, activities, and technical challenges in the fields of science and technology. It was specifically designed to spark children's interest, but it offered fun for all ages! Encouraging children to think logically when working with a machine setup was probably Marel's most stimulating challenge this afternoon. Curiosity about how things work, but also why they work that way, are key characteristics for anyone who wants to worki in this sector. A knife that stays clean when you cut through peanut butter, or an experiment with cornstarch: Marel had some fun physics experiments that captivated the young visitors. Anton de Weerd from Marel in Boxmeer hopes to show children what’s possible with technology and science, to attract them into choosing a technical education. "There’s still a shortage of people in our sector."

𝐖𝐔𝐑 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐥 𝐁𝐨𝐱𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐫 Each year, for over a decade, the Meat Science course from Wageningen University (WUR) organizes an excursion to Marel Boxmeer, which is a true highlight of the academic year for the students. On Thursday, 26 September, 34 eager WUR students visited multiple departments at Marel, showing keen interest in the company and diving into our cutting-edge technologies. This hands-on experience offers a refreshing change from their usual theoretical program. Some students even joined this particular WUR curriculum just to take part in this exclusive visit, as they hold Marel in high regard as an industry innovator—and with good reason!💡 With the day expertly coordinated by Patricia Hoekstra from Marel and Sara Erasmus from WUR, the students enjoyed a packed and engaging program. Johan Meulendijks, Marel's Research Director Innovation, delivered a keynote presentation on automation and digitalization in food processing, while Marel scientists Shai Barbut and Simba Samapundo led insightful lectures on primary poultry processing and microbial load reduction in the fresh poultry supply chain. The tour of the Democenter and Manufacturing floor was a clear highlight, sparking great interest among the students, especially those passionate about the technical aspects of food production. The official program concluded with a lively panel discussion, moderated by Sara Erasmus and Johan Meulendijks, shedding light on what the future holds for the food industry. This goes to show that Mielewczyk strives for the highest quality in production as well as in end products. Co-owner Malwina Dyszer states, “Before deciding about the purchase, we visited several factories and were impressed by Marel’s achievements. We opted for a Ferrari instead of a Volkswagen. Our expectations for the evisceration line have been met. We got what we wanted, so we chose well. Product quality is higher, yield is higher, the ergonomics are better and the way of working is more efficient and faster."
