🕹️ The Virtual Reality gaming industry is growing rapidly, with the market expected to reach $25 billion this year. Yet, according to research: 😔 Only 27% of VR gamers identify as women 😔 40% of VR game play hours are Shooter related When first developing VR puzzle game Shores of Loci, our goal was to conceive, design, & produce an innovative VR experience that would resonate with a diverse audience, particularly women, in a gaming landscape often dominated by male-oriented content. Our female-led team embarked on creating a game designed to provide a serene and immersive experience by: 🛠️ Utilizing Advanced Technology - we harnessed the power of Unreal Engine to craft stunning, surreal landscapes that transport players into otherworldly realms. This technical foundation allowed for the creation of intricate 3D puzzles set within dynamic environments. 🤝 Designing for Inclusivity - understanding the importance of broadening VR's appeal, the game was intentionally designed to attract a female audience. This was achieved through calming gameplay mechanics, soothing color palettes, and tranquil soundscapes, offering a captivating experience that diverges from conventional VR offerings. 🏆 Shores of Loci has gone on to win multiple awards, including the Venice Immersive category of the Biennale Cinema 2022, highlighting its artistic excellence and innovative design. 🪴 Now in its sixth chapter, Shores of Loci continues to evolve, offering players new and enriching content that maintains engagement and interest. 👭 ➡️ 👭 ➡️ 👭 Today, women account for 47% of all gamers (across all platforms). As VR technology becomes more mainstream and diverse content is created, the gender balance in VR gaming will continue to improve. As a female founded, female-led business, we find ourselves surrounded by inspiring women every day - from our team, to our clients, to the fabulous creative talent we have the honor of collaborating with. 💫 Here we celebrate some of our favorite recent female-focused highlights, along with some sobering gender related facts… 🎬 CHAMPIONING FEMALE DIRECTOR TALENT We recently had the pleasure of working with breakthrough female directors Cassidy Meyers, Edie Amos and Anastasja Black, on campaigns for DoorDash, TheMix_PernodRicard & AMORELIE, helping to bring insightful and authentic female perspectives to brand storytelling. In film, we partnered with the incredible Traci Hays on female-centric feature, On The Run. 😶 FACT: Less than 10% of Commercial Directors are female - this only fuels our drive to support such inspirational talent. 🎵🏀 CELEBRATING FEMALE MUSIC ARTISTS & SPORTSWOMEN We helped revive the cult classic hip-hop anthem “Basketball” by Kurtis Blow, to celebrate DoorDash’s partnership with the NBA & WNBA. The track featured rising female star Lola Brooke, Breakthrough Hip-hop Artist nominee at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, as well as Sue Bird, legendary WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) player. 😶 FACT: In 2024, WNBA players earned an average of $147,745 per season, while NBA players made approximately $12 million per season. 🎮 SERVING FEMALE GAMERS MikeTeevee's VR puzzle game, Shores of Loci, was originally developed & produced by a majority female team, with female VR game players in mind. Last month we released the game's 6th Chapter, SkyHaven. 😶 FACT: Only 23% of VR users are female, and over half of VR game play hours are Sports or Shooter related - we believe that more female focused content will lead to more female VR players, and we’re proud to contribute to this evolution. Supporting female talent, stories & voices is central to our mission. 🎥 MOVIE ALERT 🎬 Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do at MikeTeevee. Much of the work we talk about on this platform relates directly to brand marketing, which means you’d be forgiven for not knowing much about the broader spectrum of content we have a hand in producing. Our incredible post-production team recently had the opportunity to work on Killing Faith, a “cinematic, genre-bending” Western starring Guy Pearce & Bill Pullman. It was a highly rewarding experience, and we couldn’t be prouder of the team’s work in bringing this story to life. Though this project is outside of the usual 6, 15 or 30 second spots that we spend a lot of our collective time working on, the core premise remains the same—helping great stories find their audience and creating visually stunning experiences for consumers. Projects like this only serve to deepen our passion for storytelling, and we excitedly bring the same dedication to every project we undertake.
