Robotic metal 3D printing with Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (#WAAM) has been standing out as a game-changer, ensuring industries like #Maritime that their vessels are equipped with high-quality, durable and optimized components. WAAM offers solutions for the industrial production of complex metal objects in the Maritime industry. This includes the opportunity of reshoring and accelerating custom, low-cost and fast printing of complex parts with reduced material waste. At MX3D, we are conscious of how WAAM has been valuable for the industry for both new components as repair, where it can produce critical components on-demand, reducing lead times and improving overall efficiency. With our #M1 Metal AM System and our proprietary workflow #MetalXL, MX3D enables manufacturers to produce unique or low-volume meta parts fast in continuous production. MX3D | Industrial 3D metal printing | Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM)
Over ons
Develops and creates robotic 3D metal printing technology. We are a company that does what it promises, and we promise a lot! Our Moonshot project the MX3D Bridge, a stainless steel / fully functional / 12 meter long / bicycle & pedestrian / bridge for the city center of Amsterdam, finalized on 20 October 2018. Our ambition is to create a tool that allows industry leaders, innovators and professionals to realize new designs at scale in metal. We strongly believe in creation by doing, failing and trying again. We create innovative objects we ourselves would like to have. We use art and research projects to test the limits of our technology, Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (3D printing with MIG welding robots). We therefor naturally have a need to create our own tools and software. Our basic technology is now used by Industrial Corporates that are interested in introducing this technology into there workflow. We believe there is more to life than work alone. By prioritizing, we focus on whats important and keep time free for family, friends, sports and fun.

“Lower emissions than die casting” BMW Group is an example of how robotic metal 3D printing i.e. #WAAM technology benefits the automotive industry. Since 2015 they have been working with WAAM, and in 2021 they started with the production of test components such as a strut support that was compared to a corresponding part made of die-cast aluminium. "Even at this early stage of technology validation, it’s clear that the WAAM process can lead to lower emissions in the production process. Components can be produced more efficiently thanks to their lower weight, the favourable material usage ratio, and the possibility of using green electricity," according to Jens Ertel, head of BMW Additive Manufacturing. They expect to make use of WAAM technology in additional locations than the original central location of their Additive Manufacturing Campus in Oberschleissheim. Similarly, they intend to produce individual components on their assembly line and test components in vehicles in the future. At MX3D we’re happy that our #M1 Metal AM System can be an enabler for industries and their serial production manufacturing process. If your company is interested in starting industrial WAAM production with our M1 or MX, reach out to René Backx for System enquiries, or Thomas Van Glabeke for WAAM for Automotive. #10YearsOfWAAM #MetalAM #Metal3Dprinting #Robotics #Roboticwelding #DED #WAAMforEnergy #ControlledIndustrialWAAM #BMWGroup

#WAAM technology has been beneficial to several industries, the maritime sector has not been an exception. One of our customer cases has been Whittaker Engineering, a metalwork company based in Scotland. They have been using WAAM technology since 2016 to overcome the increasing lead times for cast and forged metal components. Scott Macdonald, a robotic welding engineer and additive manufacturing leader at Whittaker Engineering implemented the in-house process with a KUKA robot linked to a Fronius CMT welding machine. He connected their setup to MX3D’s #MetalXL which included a control system, training and 3 days to work autonomously with a WAAM setup. Today Scott and his team work with WAAM on the production of components and R&D for flanges, pipes and pressure equipment, among others delivering components to customers as well as research partnerships. “The understanding of welding science by MX3D and its application into MetalXL led to the possibility of printing complex components without defects such as lacks of fusions, that we often had using non-optimal subtractive manufacturing path planners”, says Scott. The MetalXL Live interface was the game changers for the team, who’s now able to monitor and control the WAAM process in real-time at high resolution: “The fact that we can get feedback on the process is a big thing, especially being able to control the interpass temperature” Feel free to reach out to René Backx or Thomas Van Glabeke if you would like to know more about our WAAM dedicated software. #10YearsOfWAAM #MetalAM #Metal3Dprinting #Robotics #Roboticwelding #DED #WAAMforEnergy #ControlledIndustrialWAAM

Very nice picture of the “Dolium” project taken by André Sprong The Dolium is located at the Gemeente Oosterhout municipality in the Netherlands, and was robotic metal 3D printing ( i.e. #WAAM technology) in CorTen steel using MX3D’s WAAM technology by the Production lead Kasper Siderius, and his team. The Dolium is the largest 3D-printed structural art object made of CorTen steel in the Netherlands. 𝙀𝙚𝙣 𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙩 𝙠𝙪𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙠! #bouwfoto #bouwfotografie #bouwfotograaf #oosterhout #dolium #gemeenteoosterhout #debouwmaakthet JavyDesign Jeroen Verdaasdonk

Do you know why everyday more artists and designers turn to robotic metal 3D printing i.e. #WAAM by MX3D? Robotic WAAM offers a unique translation of digital models in physical metal parts of virtually unlimited size. Besides being able to print pieces that could not have been possible with traditional processes, our technology can be very competitive with casting in lead time and cost. Take a look at some of our work on WAAM for Art and Design. Also, we enable artists and designers to print large objects with higher form flexibility in shape and texture. We have experience in many alloys, like bronze, aluminium, stainless steel and (corten) steel. We made parts as big as 15 x 15 x 8 metres. The material can be finished in most classic metal finishing ways: powder coat, electrolytic plating and sandblasting to name a few.
