From fostering relationships with government bodies to initiating key international collaborations, van der Sommen laid the groundwork for NWP's remarkable journey. 👣 Reflecting on milestones such as the second World Water Forum in The Hague, he recalls how it showcased the Dutch water sector like never before. With the adoption of the NWP partnership model by countries like Denmark and Japan, new opportunities emerged, proving the impact of collective action. 🌍 As NWP celebrates its 25th anniversary, van der Sommen call to action rings clear: keep the collaboration alive and look beyond traditional boundaries to innovate and secure the future of water management. 💧✨ He states: ''𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 (𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴, 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴), 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘛 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦. • 𝗜𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗳𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗪𝗣 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 As part of our anniversary celebrations, we’re spotlighting members who have been instrumental in shaping the Dutch water sector. This time, we hear from Eddy Moors Moors, Rector at IHE Delft, an NWP member since the very beginning. 🔑"NWP started right here on the IHE premises!" Moors fondly recalls. Over the years, NWP has been a key partner in connecting IHE Delft with industry stakeholders and international networks, providing invaluable insights into the skills needed by our students before they return home as alumni. 🌍Moors also highlights NWP’s vital role in uniting Dutch water expertise, saying, "NWP has always played a key role in bringing together Dutch water sector companies." He recalled a specific example. “Margreet Zwarteveen, our Professor of Water Governance, recently joined an NWP delegation that addressed the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Trade and Development Aid. It was a powerful reminder of the Dutch water ecosystem’s critical role in global water management.” ➡ https://lnkd.in/eR7M27ga Looking ahead, Moors believes NWP will continue to lead in fostering collaboration across sectors. For the first time in human history, the hydrological cycle is out of balance, undermining an equitable and sustainable future for all, states the Global Commission on the Economics of Water's report – 'The Economics of Water: Valuing the Hydrological Cycle as a Global Common Good'. More than 1,000 children aged under five die every day from illnesses caused by unsafe water and sanitation. Women and girls spend 200 million hours each day collecting and hauling water. Food systems are running out of fresh water, and cities are sinking as the aquifers beneath them run dry. The report states that more than half the world’s food production will be at risk of failure within the next 25 years as a rapidly accelerating water crisis grips the planet. We can fix this crisis if we act more collectively, and with greater urgency. Read on Dutchwatersector.com: https://lnkd.in/ePMGP3Qv #GCEWreport | #GreenWater | #FoodProduction

Under this agreement, research on sand sources along the maritime border of the Nile Delta in Egypt will be conducted, as well as feasibility studies for adaptation strategies that involve replenishing coastal areas. The seventh Cairo Water Week took place from 13 to 17 October and centred around the theme 'Water and Climate: Building Resilient Communities'. As in previous years, the Netherlands had an active role in the event’s programme. Meike van Ginneken, Dutch Special Envoy for Water, and Eva Wittmann, Dutch Deputy Ambassador to Egypt, along with a diplomatic mission from the Dutch Embassy and about 20 water experts from the Netherlands, participated in a roundtable on the UN 2026 Water Conference and the Egypt-Netherlands High-Level Expert Water Panel, amongst other policy level discussions.
