NL Architects aspires to catalyze urban life. The office is on a constant hunt to find alternatives for the way we live and work. How can we intensify human interaction? We understand architecture as the speculative process of investigating, revealing and reconfiguring the wonderful complexities of the world we live in. Can we compress banality into beauty; squeeze the sublime out of the obvious? How can we transform, twist, bend, stack, stretch, enhance or reassemble the components that constitute our environment into new and better configurations? Currently the office is involved in ‘numerous projects in various stages of development’, including residential projects, cultural facilities and sports buildings. NL Architects is an Amsterdam based office. The three principals, Pieter Bannenberg, Walter van Dijk and Kamiel Klaasse, officially opened practice in January 1997. They work together with an international, high-qualified team of 20 employees.

We are excited! 🚀 Construction for Bellevue Utrecht is officially started! Next to the iconic yellow Hogeweide Brug in Utrecht’s Leidsche Rijn, the sustainable Bellevue apartment complex is taking shape. This unique residential project along the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal will feature 163 owner-occupied apartments, spread across three buildings: Poortgebouw, Klifgebouw, and Valleigebouw. With its stepped character, shared courtyard, lush greenery, and diverse range of homes, Bellevue truly stands out. Bellevue is the result of a great collaboration between Heijmans Vastgoed, NL Architects, Workshop architecten, and Flux landscape architecture. Yesterday, Mayor Femke Halsema officially opened the Tafelberg Campus with a festive celebration. In addition to 290 homes for young people, the campus offers a shared space where residents can meet, dine together, read a book, or play a game. At the request of the project initiator, Levvel, guests were invited to contribute to this communal space. A creative, collaborative effort by Kirsten Huesig and Sarah Moller resulted in a beautiful color-matching chess set. We worked on this project with great joy—many thanks for the wonderful collaboration! Our team visited Stuttgart last week to explore the site for the temporary opera house. Located in the northern part of the city near the Wagenhallen—a former tram depot now repurposed as an event venue—the site offers a unique setting for this project. We also had the opportunity to visit the existing opera house, where an inspiring and informative tour took us through both the front and backstage areas. The current opera boasts a stunning, authentic auditorium, rich in history and character. A great thanks to Württembergische Staatstheater Stuttgart and Sybille Schmid and Tasja Schudde for showing us around, as well as to the involved stage technicians and our client proWST. On Friday, January 17, Walter van Dijk was a speaker at the ZODIAK Warsaw Pavilion of Architecture. The exhibition highlights the evolution of the housing system in Warsaw. During the evening focused on Dutch housing innovations, Walter shared insights into the Dutch approach to housing development, where architects collaborate closely with developers and municipalities to create sustainable solutions. A special thanks to the Dutch Embassy for the kind invitation and to the host and highly engaged audience for their interest and inspiring discussions. 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝘂𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝗮𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟳: de maquettes van het Forum zijn opnieuw te zien! 🤩 Het Forum zoals we het nu kennen, is niet zomaar ontstaan. In 2006 schreef de Gemeente Groningen een ontwerpwedstrijd uit voor een nieuw, iconisch gebouw aan de Nieuwe Markt. Zeven architectenbureaus uit binnen- en buitenland, waaronder gerenommeerde namen als Zaha Hadid, Erick van Egeraat en Neutelings Riedijk Architecten, presenteerden hun ontwerpen. Hun maquettes werden begin 2007 tentoongesteld in de Martinikerk, waar meer dan 31.000 bezoekers de kans kregen mee te denken over de toekomst van hun stad.💚 Zowel een beoordelingscommissie als het publiek mochten hun voorkeur uitspreken. Uiteindelijk werd unaniem gekozen voor het ontwerp van NL Architects: een gelaagd, multifunctioneel gebouw dat in 2019 werd geopend en sindsdien een centrale plek inneemt in #Groningen! Nu, vijf jaar na de opening van het Forum en meer dan 10 miljoen bezoekers verder, is het een mooi moment om met de kennis van vandaag terug te blikken. Voor het eerst in 17 jaar zijn de oorspronkelijke maquettes weer te zien. Zouden de inwoners met de ervaring van nu dezelfde keuze hebben gemaakt? De #maquettes staan vanaf vrijdag 10 januari t/m zaterdag 1 februari op de begane grond van het Forum. Kom je kijken?

Ein Wechsel der Atmosphäre. Sanfte Farben, gedämpftes Licht. Die Treppen zu den Kinosälen des Forum Groningen führen in eine andere Welt. Die Wände strahlen ein warmes Leuchten aus. Der Teppich in sattem Rosa dämpft Schritte, schafft Ruhe vor dem Film. Das Forum inszeniert Bewegung – in diesem Gebäudeteil aber mit einem Hauch von Intimität.
