Consul-general for the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Osaka and Commissioner General at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai 🇳🇱🇯🇵
🚀 Exciting prospects beyond Expo 2025 🇯🇵-🇳🇱 Last week we had the honor of our Vice Minister for Foreign Economic Relations Michiel Sweers visiting the Kansai region. It was great to update him extensively on our Expo preparations, including a site visit to Yumeshima where we showed the amazing progress of our pavilion and organized an in depth meeting with the senior leadership of the Expo Association. Expo 2025 is not just an event for us. It is a platform to work together on solving global challenges like climate change, pandemics, and food insecurity. We will be bringing over many delegations on the energy transition, smart agriculture and horticulture, life sciences and health and the digital transformation. Connecting businesses, industry, science and government on a global scale. We met with leaders from the Kansai region, like Osaka mayor #Yokoyama, Kankeiren chairman #Matsumoto. We also organized a NL-Japan economic round table discussion with senior representatives from Kankeiren, Keizai Doyukai, OCCI and Osaka Prefectural government to talk about the best way to create a long term maximum effect in our collaboration with the Kansai region during and beyond Expo. The size of the Kansai economy is on par with our economy and comparable with the economy of Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The innovative capabilities of the Kansai region are amazing with a focus on startups and especially cutting edge developments in advanced medical therapies like regenerative medicines. Absolute highlight was our visit to Tekijuku, birthplace of western medical science in Osaka based on Dutch exchange of knowledge via Dejima, which developed into Osaka University. In this landmark that is a symbol for our shared history in medicine, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between cutting edge institutions #NakanoshimaQross and RegMed XB. This MoU is the foundation for a shared future on medicine between our two countries. A wonderful visit, showing the potential of our collaboration. A big thanks to our Vice Minister for his unwavering support in boosting this thriving relationship and delivering results. Big shoutout to my colleagues who organized a perfect visit 🙌 NLExpo2025 - Netherlands participation at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan Aino Jansen Björn Ooms Naoko Shiraishi Shinobu Yoshitomi Martijn Heule #CommonGround #Expo2025Osaka #BeyondExpo #FutureStartsNow
