To mark the International Day of Happiness, the latest World Happiness Report has been released, and the Netherlands has climbed back up to 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 among 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝. While rankings fluctuate a bit every year, one thing remains clear: factors like social support, and a healthy lifestyle continue to contribute to the well-being of people in the Netherlands. This year’s report also highlights the importance of #caring and #sharing in fostering happiness - a reminder that #connection and #generosity matter more than ever. Happiness is, of course, more than just a ranking. It's about the connections we build, a sense of belonging, looking out for one another, and the quality of life we create together. We reflect on this year’s results, reminding us that well-being isn’t just personal, it thrives in communities. Curious to see the full rankings? Finland remains in first place, followed by Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden in the top four. We acknowledge the importance of continuously working towards a society where #happiness is accessible to all. #InternationalDayOfHappiness #SolvingGlobalChallengesTogether Embassy of the Netherlands in Finland

One month to go! ⏱️ Today marks exactly one month until the opening of #expo2025 Osaka Kansai Japan! In light of Circular Economy Week starting in the Netherlands next week, we want to highlight the circular Netherlands Pavilion, which is almost ready to welcome guests in Osaka, Japan. The Netherlands Pavilion is fully registered in Madaster, an online platform that tracks building materials. This creates a material passport detailing dismantlability, carbon impact, and toxicity. Designed for full reuse, the pavilion acts as a materials bank, preserving value. As a temporary Expo structure, the pavilion must be dismantled after six months. Instead of discarding materials, every element—structure, facade, and finishes—is designed for easy disassembly, with all joints and screws visible. After the Expo, the pavilion will be stored in shipping containers and relocated for a new purpose. Where do you think we should put our pavilion next? Share your ideas with us in the comments. A single tear can reveal more than just emotions - it can hold the key to #diagnosing diseases. Dr. Marlies Gijs, a biochemist at Maastricht UMC+ and known as ‘the tear doctor,’ is uncovering the hidden potential of tears as a diagnostic #tool. Her research focuses on using tear fluid to detect diseases like Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s, offering a new, non-invasive alternative to procedures like spinal taps. This discovery has the potential to change how we diagnose neurological conditions, making early detection easier and less invasive. That’s #newdutch! Sustainable architecture is a shared global challenge, and a great opportunity for collaboration. Around the world, countries are finding new ways to build greener cities, reduce waste, and make construction more circular. In the Netherlands, we believe exchanging knowledge and expertise is the best way to accelerate these innovations. From modular timber construction to repurposing materials in new builds, Dutch architects are contributing to a collective movement towards sustainability, learning from others and sharing insights along the way. One example is the Kantoor vol Afval (“Office Full of Waste”), which repurposes materials from existing structures, turning discarded elements into new, high-quality buildings. By working together across borders, we can scale up these innovations and create lasting impact. This article is a must read for anyone interested in how Dutch innovation is used in architecture and construction: https://lnkd.in/dQAa3bqg #SustainableFuture #CircularArchitecture #Innovation #SolvingGlobalChallengesTogether
