These changes come in response to severe fires on container ships in the past, often caused by improper handling and insufficient regulations. Key updates include: ✅ Mandatory declaration as "Dangerous Goods" with detailed documentation. ✅ Controlled weathering process after production to minimize self-heating risks. ✅ Temperature restrictions and packaging requirements, including a ban on bulk transport. ✅ New stowage guidelines to improve air circulation and limit cargo stacking. Ensuring compliance is critical for safety and preventing damage. NNPC claims handler experiences life aboard container vessel 🚢 Last week, our claims handler Talha Uysal had the unique opportunity to embark on an international voyage aboard one of our member's container vessels, the MV “Empire”. Sailing from Hamburg to Helsinki via the Kiel Canal and the Baltic Sea, this firsthand experience provided invaluable insights into daily life and operations at sea. 🏗️ From observing loading procedures and container monitoring—particularly for reefer cargo—to witnessing the crew’s coordination with local agents and authorities, the journey offered a fresh perspective on the complexities of shipboard life. 🌳 A key takeaway was the crew’s adept navigation of operational challenges, from cargo handling to vessel maintenance. It was also enlightening to see how emission regulations are managed in practice, including fuel switching and emission tracking. Experiencing these processes firsthand reinforced how seamlessly regulatory compliance is integrated into daily operations. 🧭 Understanding the challenges and responsibilities crew members face daily enables us to approach claims with greater awareness and empathy. Whether it’s cargo handling, vessel upkeep, or regulatory adherence, every aspect of ship operations contributes to the bigger picture. Firsthand exposure like this strengthens our ability to support our members more effectively, deepening our appreciation for the realities behind every claim.
