Connecting highly educated internationals and Dutch employers

Over ons

I believe that everyone should have the career they want. To be empowered and autonomous. That’s why I have created Open Dutch Doors; a career and settling in services company that helps highly educated internationals find interesting work in the Netherlands and that connects them to Dutch employers that are seeking to find and keep talented employees. Highly skilled migrants will know how to improve their market fit and how to find and get the job they want. If moving countries, a soft landing can be provided. Dutch employers will know how to find new talented employees quicker, improve their candidate experience and increase employee retention by taking care of their employee wellbeing.

It was great to share my advice and insights with international job seekers at the second "Internationals Meet Recruiters" event organized by Welcome to Maastricht Region, Expat Centre Maastricht Region and PITground! We had a full house and a great mix of attendees: ◼ 55 internationals met 6 employers ◼ 36% international students ◼ 27% accompanying spouses/partners ◼ 27% professionals (highly skilled migrant visum) For all job seekers that are looking for interesting work; keep an eye out for the next "Internationals Meet Recruiters" event... A special thanks to Monique Kostons-Aerts and Ramona Corsius-Corvers for inviting me🙏🏼. -------------------------------------------- 👋🏻 My name is Sandrine de Goede ⚡️Teaching highly skilled internationals how to find and get work in the Netherlands ⚡️Supporting employers in the Netherlands to find, attract and keep (inter)national talent   Did you like this post? 🔔 Ring my bell (see my profile, top right hand corner) 👉🏻 Follow me and my company #OpenDutchDoors 🔝Connect with me

It was great to have been invited by Colleen Reichrath-Smith, HNCP to co-host yesterday's Work Search Strategy Session for Maastricht School of Management (MSM) alumni and graduates 🚀 ! Job seeking can be quite an endeavor. Especially when you are new to a country. Fortunately, there are educators like MSM that care and that do all they can to help their students succeed. A big thank you to Denise Dupont for the organization 🙏 .

We are all Kinder Surprise (Joy in English) Eggs! From the outside we may look alike, but hidden inside are the real treasures... So, what are your treasures? What makes you an excellent candidate for a specific job position? What are your hard and soft skills? What are you really good at? Don't know? Ask someone else! Talk to someone else about your study or work experience and things you enjoy doing. Both work and non-work related. He or she can then tell what stands out for them. Viewed from a distance, things tend to become clear more easily. It is as simple as that. 🐥 And now ... enjoy your chocolate: Happy Easter! 🐥 #highlyskilledmigrant #newjob #skills #workinthenetherlands -------------------------------------------- 👋🏻 My name is Sandrine de Goede ⚡️Teaching highly skilled internationals how to find and get work in the Netherlands ⚡️Supporting employers in the Netherlands to find, attract and keep (inter)national talent   Did you like this post? 🔔 Ring my bell (see my profile, top right hand corner) 👉🏻 Follow me and my company #OpenDutchDoors 🔝Connect with me

Want to stand out from the crowd? Show that you are really passionate about working for a specific employer? LinkedIn has a new feature that helps you do so👇🏻: Follow these steps: ➀ Go to your favorite employer’s LinkedIn company page ➁ Click the “About” tab ➂ Scroll all the way down to “interested in working with us in the future” ➃ Click “I’m interested”   Recruiters from the company will see your profile when looking for interested candidates.   LinkedIn indicates it will protect candidates’ privacy and that profiles and interest can only be seen by hirers from the company of choice.   Your interest will be visible for recruiters for one year, unless you choose to remove it earlier on. The feature may not be available for all employers. “May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”   A beautiful quote by Nelson Mandela.   It’s applicable to many a situation including looking for work in another country or switching careers.   It is not easy. “This must be Heaven: I can actually start my Christmas dinner by having my dessert first”. This is what I thought when sitting down at the beautifully decorated table.   My first Christmas dinner in Ecuador. A table full of different sizes of plates, dishes, starters, cake, roasted meat, vegetables, cheese … Everything waiting for us to be eaten!   It was soooo different from anything I was used to: the usual (for me) order of starter-main course-cheese-dessert, all served separately. But very nice all the same😋.   But what is ‘normal’ anyways??   How is Christmas, if at all, celebrated in your country of origin? Let us know in the comments! 🔔 Ring my bell (see my profile, top right hand corner) 👉🏻 Follow me and my company #OpenDutchDoors 🔝Connect with me   #workinthenetherlands #culturalawareness

Don't focus too much on "beating the ATS"!

Are you afraid of employers' Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)? That the system may not select you for the next phase in a job application procedure? Do you therefore include ALL skills, requirements and buzzwords that are written in a job posting in your CV? ❌ Please, stop doing that! ❌ Sure: ATS are important. But the more so is presenting yourself in a way that is intelligible for the hiring manager/recruiter. Make sure your application works for both a computer and a human being! #workinthenetherlands #highlyskilledmigrant #newjob Gif from scene in Little Britain

    • ATS can be scary. Make sure that your CV is not crammed with too many buzzwords, skills and competencies!

Sometimes I hear international clients say something along the lines of “I don’t have much experience in this field, so it is ok if I get a lower pay”.   This is the point where I start shaking my head and go “no no no”!!!!   Coming from another industry or having had other types of roles or responsibilities often provides for a new look on things. It allows one to think out of the box and come up with creative solutions. Also, skills and competencies used in other settings are very often transferable.   So why settle for a lower pay?   Being different adds color.  If you’re ready to spread your wings and fly, send me a DM!    #newjob #highlyskilledmigrant #workinthenetherlands Source image: street art by L7m
