A new study from Wageningen University & Research reveals the paws-itive effects of our black soldier fly protein in cat food, more specifically in Petgood’s insect-based Adult Cat food. 🐈 Published in the Journal of Insects as Food and Feed, the research shows that ProteinX offers great acceptance, digestibility, and nutritional value comparable to super-premium poultry-based diets. Plus, ProteinX modulates the gut microbiota and promoted an increase in the production of faecal short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are considered beneficial for kitty gut health! Did you know? Insects are nature’s most powerful upcyclers. Plant-based food waste serves as feed for insects. In turn, the insects are processed into sustainable ingredients such as proteins, lipids and fertiliser; serving both animals and plants!   For good reasons the black soldier fly is our Best Sustainable Friend. The BSF larvae contain more nutrients than the larvae of other insects. This is because the matured insect doesn’t eat and must live off the accumulated reserves. Also the black soldier fly has a short life-cycle which allows large-scale production and more reliable supply compared to other insects.   ➡️ Our BSF larvae take low-grade food waste from the food industry and turn it into high-end protein, fat and fertiliser. Protix is thrilled to see companies like Aller Aqua go the extra mile to incorporate sustainable practices. It's amazing to see that Aller Aqua and Aller Aqua Research and Development are researching new raw materials and have tested insect protein as a potential aquafeed ingredient. Even better, they are publishing exciting results on insect ingredients in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and Austevoll Elaks AS, a Norwegian salmon producer. Jesper Clausen, Group Director for Research and Development at Aller Aqua Group, comments: "From the trials conducted with insect meals we also see some initial observations that indicate that there is a positive effect on fillet quality and taste with inclusion of insect meal in, for instance, salmon feed." Sturle Skeidsvoll, Business Development Manager at Aller Aqua Norway, adds: "At Austevoll Melaks, we have witnessed that the salmon is superior on several counts. It grows better; it has better coloration, and 70 percent in a taste-test preferred the salmon fed with insect meal in the feed."
