It is always interesting to have the opportunity to chat with Maarten Steinbuch. I learned about Societal Readiness Levels to adopt Innovation. And for Radio 4 Brainport, the expat station, I pressed "record": At Dutch Design Week, Eindhoven University of Technology shows its Drivers of Change. We see highly relevant technology. Yet a design event like #DDW is in particular an opportunity to create societal awareness and also to boost the Societal Readiness Level of an idea. Innovation is not only about bringing up the Technology Readiness. Great ideas at TU/e that address the big challenges. We saw a brand new car design, designed with sustainability in mind, that impressed even Maarten Steinbuch. Also at DDW, the Eindhoven Engine hosts workshops to help illiterate people to gain access to information. Lucas Asselbergs https://lnkd.in/eQJK_7rc

🎙️📻 I'm excited to share the latest podcast 4 Brainport episode, Radio 4 Brainport, the expat station! 💻🔄🧬 In this episode, I had a fascinating conversation with Indrė Žliobaitė, a leading expert in machine learning and evolutionary biology from the University of Helsinki. Ever wondered how adaptive algorithms relate to evolution? Or how data science can help us understand how species—and even models—adapt over time? We discuss these topics and more, including concept drift and adaptive models, the No Free Lunch theorem, and how these insights from machine learning shed light on the process of evolution (and vice versa). Curious to see how the worlds of algorithms and nature collide? 🌱🤖 Tune in and get a fresh perspective on how evolution connects with the future of data science and machine learning! 🎧 Listen now— 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e2WuFTHC #ML #Evolution #Algorithms #DataScience #conceptdrift #Podcasts4Brainport

This weekend, Dutch Design Week starts. With prof. Berry Eggen we look back to how it all started. What made Eindhoven a hotspot for Design? We may go back to Louis Kalff, but in the 90s, design of electronic systems underwent a revolution. Thanks to multiple initiatives, and thanks to the Brainport culture to work together, forces were joined to create a strong eco system that is world famous. It is not only renowned for its events and innovative ideas, but the (often patented) concepts found their way into may products, internationally. And from the past, we fast-forward to the future. Wat does AI mean for human interaction with technology? TU Eindhoven Professor Berry Eggen takes us on a journey through the creation of a design ecosystem and what is now known as Dutch Design Week. It is an invasion. The Japanese knotweed is considered to be one of the most invasive exotic plants. Once the plant has been established, it is very difficult to get rid of it. Due to its strong vigor, native plant species are displaced. Even the stinging nettle, the brandnetel, is overgrown. The strong rhizomes and stems of Japanese knotweed can cause damage to buildings, pipes and roads. Authorities recommend to take action early on, and not to let the plant cover more than 1 square meter, as by then is really gets out of control. If it is in your garden, weed it out including the roots. But you may not dump it as "green waste", because it will spread. If you sell your house, you have to report any knotweed in the same way as asbestos. Nonetheless it is making rapid inroads in Eindhoven public spaces and in this season it is spreading it seeds.
