Celebrating and honouring LGBTIAQ+ & HIV/AIDS activists where the societal and/or political environment is against them
Over ons
The ‘Rainbow Salute Initiative’ (RSI) celebrates and honours LGBTIAQ+ activists and HIV/AIDS activists from countries where the societal and/or political environment is against those communities. The RSI achieves its purpose by, but not limited to, organizing activities that celebrate activists in person while ensuring their safety at all times. The ‘Rainbow Salute Foundation‘ (RSF) is the legal entity behind the initiative. Based in the Netherlands, it is working to attain the ‘ANBI’ status, officially recognising it as a non-profit public benefit organisation.

Meet our team! Continuing with the initiator of the initiative and Foundation treasurer Eric Klaver. Eric has been involved in various volunteer roles before initiating the Rainbow Salute Foundation and Initiative. In the early ‘90s, Eric was on the organising committee of the first and second Walk for Life in Amsterdam, the sponsor walk for the fight against Aids. In 2018 and 2022 Eric volunteered at the Aids conferences of the International Aids Society (IAS), respectively in Amsterdam and Montreal. Eric intends to volunteer again at the AIDS2024 conference in München, Germany. In 2013, Eric with a friend initiated PRIDE66 (initially GAY66), the rainbow network of the Dutch political party D66 (social democrats) and chaired that organisation for 10 years. In this role, Eric was involved with the organisation of boats for Amsterdam Pride, first for D66, and later for the combined political parties, under the slogan ‘Unity for the Community’. Stepping down as chair of PRIDE66 in August 2023, Eric started the Rainbow Salute Initiative, supported by the foundation. https://lnkd.in/eymBJ3kq #rainbowsalute #activism #activist #lgbtqia #hivaids

Meet our team! Starting with the Foundation Chair: Carlo. Carlo van Munster is a council member on the Amsterdam City Council, representing his party 'Green Left' (GroenLinks). In his spare time, he sings, acts, and serves as chair on the board of 3 theatre groups. Carlo has a strong urge to stand up for justice & equality and always speaks out for human rights. As a strong ally to the communities the Rainbow Salute Foundation is serving, Carlo did not hesitate for a second upon hearing about the initiative. He pledged his support and abilities to the success of the Rainbow Salute Foundation. https://lnkd.in/eXr6fpQV #rainbowsalute #activism #activist #lgbtqia #hivaids

The Rainbow Salute Foundation was granted a ticket to sail in the Amsterdam Pride Canal Parade 2024! One of only 80 boats that will form the parade, we’re extremely proud to get this opportunity as a fledgling organisation! Our boat will feature activists for LGBTQIA+ and HIV/Aids causes, from different places in the world. The theme for this year’s Pride is ‘TOGETHER’. Which, of course, is PERFECT for what the Rainbow Salute Initiative stands for. We’re in this together, and the Amsterdam crowds watching along the canal will show our international heroes that they are supported, appreciated and celebrated.
