Positive Climate News Below ⬇️ 💰 At COP16, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, and the UK pledged €130 million to protect biodiversity. This fund will support 24 developing countries, with 20% aimed at initiatives led by Indigenous peoples and local communities. 🫱🏻🫲🏼 The UK and Australia have agreed to work together on the accelerated development of renewable energy, focusing on green hydrogen and offshore wind technologies. This partnership aims to enhance energy security and reduce carbon emissions. 🚂 Portugal is introducing a new €20 monthly train ticket, the Green Rail Pass, which allows unlimited travel on nearly all urban, regional, inter-regional, and inter-city services operated by Comboios de Portugal, promoting sustainable transport options. 🐂 By 2026, up to 15 tauros cattle will be reintroduced to the Scottish Highlands to help restore biodiversity, store carbon, and boost eco-tourism. This initiative aims to replicate the ecological role of their ancestors, the extinct aurochs.

Two weeks ago, we attended a donation event of our partner Stichting StukjeNatuur. It was an inspiring day that reaffirmed our belief in restoration efforts in the Netherlands! 🌳 A highlight was the engaging lecture by Kenneth Rijsdijk, board member of Dutch Earth Foundation on the importance of reintroducing ‘The Hedge,’ which: 🌱 Boosts biodiversity 🌿 Absorbs carbon 💧 Mitigates flood risks 🦉 Attracts natural predators 💰 Offers cost savings At Regreener, we fully support this vision and are proud to contribute through our landschape restoration projects in collaboration with StukjeNatuur. The day ended with a guided tour of the stunning Prattenburg estate, where landscape expert Gerard Koopmans showcased the many facets of forest management. The key takeaway? Yesterday, Regreener was mentioned on Arjen Lubachs Avondshow. Thanks for the 2x shout-out! 🌱🔊 Lubach focused on carbon offsetting. There is justified critique on certain carbon project types (e.g. rainforest protection). It is however important to point out that the carbon market is young, developing and small (around USD 2 billion annually worldwide). We are firm believers in the market’s potential as a force for good. That is, if we can ensure quality, transparency and integrity while it matures. Feedback is always welcome. The item ended with the following take-aways that we fully agree with: ❌ The worst thing you can do about your emissions is nothing ⚖️ The 2nd best thing is take responsibility by countering your emissions with a climate project (and a cost on your P&L) 📉 The best thing you can do is avoid emissions in the first place. With internal carbon pricing, you take the costs of CO2 emissions into account while buying something new 🖥️🪑 For instance, like De Correspondent, you charge yourself 120 euros per emitted tonne CO2.
