🌍 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵! 🌱 We’re excited to share a major milestone for two startups in our community, Mati Carbon and Planboo, who have each secured Shopify as a buyer of their carbon removal credits. This marks a significant step in unlocking the potential of the Global South to deliver the large-scale, permanent carbon removal needed to meet climate goals. 🎉 Here’s why this is big: 🧑🌾 Mati Carbon: Shopify’s purchase of 5,000 CDR credits will help scale Mati Carbon’s Enhanced Rock Weathering (#ERW) operations across India, Zambia, and Tanzania, empowering over 20,000 smallholder farmers to participate in carbon removal and improve livelihoods. 🌱 Planboo: Shopify's purchase of carbon removal from Planboo's first-ever biochar portfolio supports not one but several of their projects across the Tropics. This enables the Planboo team to continue to scale and advance their biochar production, reducing emissions and storing carbon while creating local economic opportunities. These partnerships highlight the incredible climate leadership of Shopify and its commitment to supporting innovative CDR solutions like Mati and Planboo in emerging markets. Congratulations to everyone involved and the #CDR community as a whole! 📖 Links to the full announcements in the comments below! 👇 #CarbonRemoval #EnhancedRockWeathering #Biochar #GlobalSouth

🇪🇺 A united call for integrating carbon removals into the Clean Industrial Deal 🇪🇺 🤝 Together with 𝟰𝟰 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, remove has addressed an open letter to President von der Leyen, Executive Vice-Presidents Ribera and Séjourné, and Commissioner Hoekstra. The letter calls on the European Commission to ensure the Clean Industrial Deal supports investment, innovation, and deployment in carbon dioxide removal (#CDR), a cornerstone of Europe’s path to climate neutrality. Our key asks: ➡️ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 to accelerate CDR deployment. ➡️ 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 (𝗜𝗣𝗖𝗘𝗜) 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗗𝗥 to foster cross-border coordination. ➡️ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 to attract and retain CDR companies. ➡️ 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 to support a growing CDR industry and ensure a just transition. CDR is critical to meeting net-zero targets. With the Clean Industrial Deal and Climate Law revision on the horizon, now is the time to ensure carbon removals are at the heart of Europe’s climate strategy. ✉️ Read the full letter here: https://lnkd.in/eJHV5V38 #CleanIndustrialDeal #ClimateAction #CarbonRemoval #NetZero #EU

This past month, remove had the opportunity to showcase carbon removal to diverse audiences through two events in #Berlin 🇩🇪: 1️⃣ 𝗘𝗦𝗠𝗧 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Marian Krueger led a workshop, together with Dr. Jennifer Pernau (Microsoft), introducing the role of CDR to address residual emissions to sustainability leaders, along with practical suggestions on how corporates can — and should — start engaging with CDR suppliers today. During the workshop, we explained the importance of engaging in CDR early on and we facilitated a hands-on case study where sustainability leaders developed CDR strategies for companies across various industries with different emission profiles and priorities. The exercise sparked great ideas and meaningful discussions about how participants could bring these insights into their own organizations. 2️⃣ 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: "𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗖𝗢𝟮 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹?" This panel discussion, organized by Zentrum Liberale Moderne, explored how industrial policy should be designed to enable the carbon dioxide removal sector to thrive in #Germany. remove's co-founder Marian Krüger joined esteemed panelists Cara Bien (BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V.) and Pascal Hader-Weinmann (German Energy Agency (dena)). The discussion was moderated by Lukas Daubner, Program Director at Zentrum Liberale Moderne. Key takeaways included the importance of creating consistent regulatory frameworks that provide long-term certainty for investors and fostering innovation through targeted funding and support mechanisms. These policies are critical to scaling CDR solutions and integrating them into broader industrial strategies. 💚A big thank-you to ESMT Berlin and Zentrum Liberale Moderne for having us and creating spaces to talk about carbon removal with such engaged audiences.
