September 24th is the World Cancer Research Day. The development of technology for Raman-guided tumor surgery is an important area of activity in RiverD’s R&D-pipeline: https://lnkd.in/eZgD9y_E https://lnkd.in/dp9MJgNr Achieving complete tumor removal with adequate margins is key to optimizing cancer treatment. However, this cannot always be warranted by the hands, eyes and experience of the surgeon. RiverD is developing the MarginGuide-system for assessment of resection margins during oral cancer surgery, which is notorious for the high percentage of inadequate operations. Recently, a project has started at the Department of Pathology of UZA (Antwerp University Hospital) aimed at optimal integration of the technology in the clinical workflow. Back from a very stimulating week in Lisbon, at the E2BRN and ESDR meetings. We have been demonstrating our gen2-SCA system for in vivo molecular skin analysis and quantitative analysis of the skin penetration of topical product and over 60 visitors have given our pretty pink prototype NMFScan a try. This week we welcome our new interns Atene de Jong and Federica Fresia. Atene, from Hogeschool Rotterdam, will help us optimizing the protocol to measure reference Raman spectra for skin penetration experiments. Federica, recently graduated from Università degli Studi di Torino, will focus on Marketing and Communication. We’re excited to have you here and see what you will bring to our team!

RiverD will demonstrate its gen2-Skin Composition Analyzer. We will also bring our prototype "NMFScan", which measures Natural Moisturizing Factor concentration in the palmar stratum corneum as non-invasive, rapid biomarker for loss-of-function filaggrin gene mutations. Last week we had to say goodbye to our interns Emilie FERREIRA and Hugo Jaffré from Télécom Physique Strasbourg. They shared a few words with us about their experience: “This internship has greatly enhanced my technical skills, particularly in electronics and microcontroller programming. It also provided me with the opportunity to engage in a real-world project, allowing me to explore the challenges that engineers often face.
