Securing this event after Duncan Laurence’s victory didn’t happen by luck—it started with a bold bid, the ideal event space, and a joined vision from the city. Together with Gemeente Rotterdam, Rotterdam Festivals, Rotterdam Ahoy, and our dedicated partners, we made a compelling case for Rotterdam, leading to an unforgettable week of music and community. In May 2019, we brought together seven international experts to envision how tourism could grow sustainably while benefiting the city’s local economy. Their insights helped create a new tourism vision for Gemeente Rotterdam and reshape our own approach to tourism. Since then, we don’t just talk about 'tourists,' but 'do-rists'—people who actively engage with the city, contributing to its culture and development. Since 2016, Rotterdam Architecture Month has been a key part of the city's cultural calendar and what many may not know is that we, together with AIR - Architectuur Instituut Rotterdam and Rotterdam Festivals proudly launched this initiative. This vibrant event features over a hundred activities across forty locations, including the iconic orange skybridge from the Rotterdamse Dakendagen (Rotterdam Rooftop Days). Designs like the renowed Markthal, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen and Portlantis, the state-of-the-art experience center of Port of Rotterdam, set to open in the spring of 2025 at Maasvlakte 2, have helped cement Rotterdam’s reputation as a city of architectural innovation. Our long-standing partnership with MVRDV, the creative force behind these projects, continues to be a cornerstone in shaping the city’s identity.
