Positive Transitions Care – Highlights from February at International School of London (ISL)
With a multiple award-winning transitions-care programme established over 10 years ago, wellbeing is truly at the heart of the International School of London that has positive transitions-care best practices embedded in every aspect of the school. Here is a snapshot of some of the activities from
February!
💠 A highlight of the month was ISL’s World of Languages Week - celebrating the beauty of every language. Inspired by UNESCO’s International Mother Tongue Day and aligned with Lunar New Year celebrations, the week provided an opportunity for students and staff to celebrate their languages, engage in cultural activities and explore the power of multilingualism. This year’s event placed a strong emphasis on sharing, celebrating and teaching languages to one another. Every student was involved in some way through engaging and meaningful activities that highlighted their diverse linguistic community. It was a highly memorable week of fostering positive connections and understanding across the school.
💠 Several transitions care workshops were held, including Welcome and Goodbye sessions and Check-ins for students, a TCK parent workshop, and a Life in London workshop - an interactive session regularly provided to new families to share essential advice for settling in.
💠 New staff at ISL attended a welcome dinner at a local venue
with the Head of School and other members of staff.
💠 Parent English Language classes were also provided. This is a free programme run every week by the Head of Multilingualism, to help parents improve their English skills while building friendships within the community.
💠 ISL continued their World of Cafes Parent Forums, giving different language groups the opportunity to meet with the Head of School and Transitions Care team to share thoughts and feedback, and enhance connections over coffee mornings.
A special shoutout to ISL’s Head of Student Support and Transitions Care, and the current Chair of Safe Passage Across Networks (SPAN)’s Board of Trustees, Claudine Hakim, ISL’s Transitions Care team, Head of
Multilingualism, Zack Ekert, School Counsellor, Timea Virag, and the Parent Teacher Association members, who all work closely together to provide this valuable range of activities at ISL, where positive transitions-care is truly embedded throughout the school community.
