🚀 Exciting Collaboration Announcement! We’re excited to welcome Propel’s newest member: UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub and will be partnering with the UNDP on two transformative initiatives: 1️⃣ Mayors for Economic Growth: Enhancing community resilience and economic growth in Eastern Partnership cities through innovative governance and project design. 2️⃣ City Experiment Fund: Using AI and blockchain to help cities address complex challenges sustainably and drive systemic change. The strategic collaboration aims to support operational efficiencies and learning processes of the regional #UNDP hub. Propel is set to enhance the way in which the UNDP can learn consistently from its programmes by systematically documenting what works and what does not and through this, to build on these insights to facilitate better, data-driven decisions. We look forward to supporting the United Nations Development Programme in achieving their mission. Here’s to propelling transformative impact! #Propel #Innovation #TechnologyInAction #Partnership #InternationalDevelopment

What happens when we pit “global” vs. “local” knowledge? Pervasive inequality and stilted progress. In the third part of our Development Knowledge Matters blog series by Sarah Abdelatif, she gives examples of #local and #indigenous knowledge that exists and will equip development and humanitarian organisations to tackle #globalcrises. This needs the system to change; to listen to and put local actors at the forefront of programmatic work. Sarah notes that in the current set-up, as phrased by Rana B. Khoury and Emily K.M. Scott in The New Humanitarian, “[…] international aid actors are actually reinforcing their power through these processes. The system still determines whether local actors are worthy humanitarians, if they’re capable of receiving funding, how much core support costs they’re allowed, who can participate in coordination meetings, and even who is able to respond to crises in their own countries. […] In other words, international actors still have the power to let local actors into the humanitarian club – or to keep them out.” The piece concludes with a call to collect stories on how #localisation will move beyond being just talk with more examples, such as Cairo’s “Zabbaleen” who have much to teach us about recycling. Why Propel should be on your action list as a #MEAL Officer: In Propel, you have all key project insights in one place. It’s a single place where MEAL Officers and their teams across borders and boundaries, can capture their direct in-field and on the ground experiences. A lot of knowledge is produced during project implementation. Around each learning question that you add to your portal in the platform, you plan your learning activities. These activities guide your reflection and learning process. For each learning question, the tool guides you through capturing and documenting what was learnt, highlighting what went well or where you faced challenges. Insights from the learning stories around each learning question are then summarised as a knowledge map, providing you with key knowledge about the topic and context. Are you a project manager or MEAL officer looking for a better way to document, share and apply your project insights? Tap into Propel and share what features you feel are most beneficial to you and your team. Comment below if you're interested in seeing the platform in action or reach out to Andrés Roure Cuzzoni or Sarah Abdelatif to chat more specifically about your organisation's learning journey needs. #learningquestion #tacitknowledge #learningactivity #PropelYourLearning

🔔 New Use Case alert! What are the needs of an external evaluator and how can Propel reshape how we approach evaluations for humanitarian programmes? Our NGO evaluation report insights must answer the requirements of the external evaluator. This has not historically been a “simple ask” but with one place from which to capture and analyse learnings, it becomes simpler. Terre des hommes foundation is a pioneer in this response. Their "Programme de lutte contre la torture et les mauvais traitements" transformed their approach to programme evaluation in partnership with our platform, demonstrating how targeted technology can streamline the gathering and presentation of crucial evaluation data and enhance the impact and efficiency of evaluation processes. What counts as success in development cooperation? “I remember that in 2008, when I was Rwandan Ambassador to Germany, telling people that we had banned plastic bags in Rwanda. Germans were surprised and asked why they don’t learn from our experience. I answered that they must ask themselves. It is up to you to be ready to learn from us.” - Ambassador Christine Nkulikiyinka Check out the second part of our Development Knowledge Matters blog series by Sarah Abdelatif in which she discusses the purpose of development, measures of success and inspiring examples of how we can tap into a multi-directional flow of knowledge for sustainable development.
