🎉 With the steel strike ceremony - together with Seatrium - we have started the construction of the very first Dutch 2GW offshore grid connection. ⚡ This grid connection, once commissioned in 2029, will deliver 2GW of electricity and connect the wind farm IJmuiden Ver Beta in the North Sea, 155 kilometres off the Dutch coast. This project is part of the 2GW programme which sets a new pace for the energy transition. It will provide Europe with more green energy in a safe and cost-effective way. And with the lowest possible impact on the environment. Jessie van der Linden, Associate Director Large Projects Offshore (2GW): ‘After years of engineering and procurement preparations, especially during a challenging period, it is a great pleasure to see that the very first platform of our 2GW programme is now starting to take physical shape. 🎉 Today we celebrate 5 years of COBRAcable! Since September 2019, this submarine cable directly connects the Netherlands and Denmark, over a distance of 325 km, with a capacity of 700 MW. A milestone for green energy! 💡 In The Netherlands, we have imported 12.54 TWh of electricity over the five years, that is approximately 10% of the total annual electricity consumption in the Netherlands (2023)- and we have exported 6.94 TWh. COBRAcable is an initiative between us and our partner Energinet. It enables direct electricity trading between the Dutch and Danish markets and facilitates the import of renewable energy, especially wind energy from Denmark.
