By extracting heat deep from the earth, we can environmentally friendly warm large greenhouses where we grow vegetables, fruits, flowers, and plants. 🌿💧 Did you know that the temperature in the soil increases on average by 25-30°C for every kilometer of depth, depending on geological conditions? In geothermal projects, hot water is pumped from deep underground. This water is then used to heat greenhouses. The cooled water is returned to the ground to be reheated, creating a continuous process without waste. 🔄♨️ For greenhouse horticulture, utilizing geothermal energy is essential for reducing CO₂ emissions and making our food production sustainable. This technology not only provides warmth to greenhouses but can also heat homes and other buildings, contributing to a broader energy transition. 🌱🏡 By choosing geothermal energy, we take an important step towards a climate-friendly future. Together, we are committed to a sustainable and green sector! 💚 Trias Westland | HVC #geothermal #sustainability #geothermics #greenhousehorticulture #energy #climatefriendly #future #tomatoworld #greenerfuture #sustainableagriculture

𝗧𝗡𝗢 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 At Tomatoworld, TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) is involved in the 'Do IoT for greenhouse horticulture' project, which investigates the use of connected wireless sensors and robots in greenhouse horticulture. This project is a collaboration between three successful South Holland field labs: Do IoT Fieldlab, RoboHouse, and Tomatoworld. The measurements at Tomatoworld’s greenhouse represent the fourth of a total of five measurements aimed at quantifying the impact of tomato plant growth on signal strength. Last week, the measurements were conducted shortly after the tomato plants were planted. TNO experts Stan van Nieuwamerongen, Peter Hoefsloot will repeat these measurements at different growth stages of the plants to monitor the impact on radio signal strength until the tomatoes are fully grown. The equipment scans frequencies from 700 MHz to 6 GHz, which includes typical 5G frequencies. A transmitting antenna has been installed in a fixed location at 3 meters height in the corner of the greenhouse (see the first photo). The receiving antenna (see the second photo) is moved to various locations throughout the greenhouse and placed at three different heights at each location to measure signal strength. [Technical note: Measurements are performed using both horizontal and vertical polarizations.] 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 The 'Do IoT for greenhouse horticulture' project is a collaboration between the South Holland field labs Do IoT Fieldlab, RoboHouse, and Tomatoworld, which each have a proven track record of supporting SMEs in digital innovation. These field labs are structurally embedded within the regional ecosystem. The organizations behind these field labs and their stakeholders recognize the opportunities that collaboration offers to further innovate regional horticultural companies. The 'Do IoT for greenhouse horticulture' project gives concrete form to this goal. The objective of 'Do IoT for greenhouse horticulture' is to accelerate digital innovation in the horticultural sector by helping companies develop, test, and demonstrate innovative sensor systems, robots, and autonomous vehicles, which depend on high-quality mobile data connections. The project provides 5G testing and experimentation facilities where SMEs can test their digital innovations and assess their scalability from prototype to practice. Partners: TNO Tomatoworld RoboHouse MCS Benelux Do IoT Fieldlab Provincie Zuid-Holland Metropoolregio Rotterdam Den Haag (MRDH) Gemeente Westland 5G is a project of RoboCrops, Robohouse, and Do IoT fieldlab, made possible with funding from MRDH, the Municipality of Westland, and the Innovatiefonds Hagelunie.
