📣 Congrats and good luck to TU Delft colleagues Jos van den Boom and Victor Rijkaart who recently started as board of directors of the Rotterdam the Hague Innovation Airport Foundation (#RHIA), together with Lennard Verhoeff from NLR ✈ The RHIA community works towards cleaner, quieter and smarter aviation. For example by working with Rotterdam The Hague Airport as a unique, operational pilot site to enable sustainable flying - including electric and hydrogen as future energy carriers. Victor: "Aviation is facing a huge transition. At TU Delft, we work together with other knowledge institutions like NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre and companies from the broad aviation sector to develop, test and introduce the right innovations. With this position at RHIA, we can make big strides." How incredible would it be to experience weightlessness while testing your "crazy idea" for space exploration? That's exactly what the Moonshot team 'Density Defense' did as part of the NL Moonshots24 project initiated by NSO - Netherlands Space Office, where 250 students are working on innovations that could change the future of space travel. The team visited our hangar at Rotterdam The Hague Airport to test their moonshot during a parabolic flight in the Cessna Citation from NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre and TU Delft Aerospace Engineering. Their experiment aims to provide insight into how monitoring microRNA levels can help predict sensitivity to osteoporosis caused by weightlessness. This is crucial for selecting astronauts for long-duration missions and offers potential for personalized countermeasures and training programs to reduce bone density loss. During the flight, the team took the first steps to determine whether a simple finger prick could be used to measure miRNA levels. On October 2nd, the team will pitch their moonshot to astronauts Linda Godwin and Ulrich Walter at Sonnenborgh - museum & sterrenwacht in Utrecht. Want to attend? Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eMYbBVPG. At the same time, four other student teams will pitch their fantastic Moonshot ideas to astronauts Rick Hieb and Franz Viehböck at TU Delft. Interested? Register here: https://lnkd.in/eiWy6Pn7. Curious about all the moonshot locations? Check out the website: moonshots24.nl. #Moonshots #SpaceforTalent #NLSW24

In March this year, EUROCONTROL's MUAC launched the innovative software tool LORD that empowers their air traffic controllers to make faster and more intuitive decisions about air traffic in their area. This tool is unique because it’s built on 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 research by our #aetudelft colleagues Clark Borst, Max Mulder and René van Paassen. These interfaces give controllers a real-time view of both safe and unsafe actions in the form of graphical representations, making complex decisions easier and more intuitive in one of Europe’s busiest airspaces. 🛫💡 Borst: "I am proud that we are helping air traffic controllers make good and, above all, safe choices in this way.” The collaboration doesn’t stop there — they are working with MUAC on 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 solutions that will allow controllers to team up with a 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲, taking air traffic control to the next level.
