In preparation for next week's Techleap Investor dinner hosted by Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau and Rinke Zonneveld from Invest-NL, I asked the amazing Dealroom.co team to pull some stats on the Growth stage funding gap in the Netherlands I knew the situation was bad, but did not realize it was so dire: - The Netherlands holds its own within Europe, but a large funding gap with the US persists at the later stages. Bay Area VC Investments is 7x higher than in the Netherlands at the startup stage, widening to a whopping 54x at the scale-up stage. - Nearfield Instruments raised the only mega-round in the Netherlands this year. A brilliant company, but surely the Netherlands has more to offer than semiconductors. - Some say the talent in the valley is just better. This might be true but I refuse to believe it is 54x better. - Despite their significant capital advantage at the scale-up stage, Bay area companies are only 2x more likely to cross $500m revenue than those in key European markets, including the Netherlands Thank you Yoram Wijngaarde and the amazing Nina Chaloum for your sharp insights!
