📣 Happy to share this new publication from our PhD student Matheus Barboza 📖 Matheus conducting his PhD as part of our joint PhD degree programme with the University of Sao Paulo. The paper is co-authored by Mariana Giannotti, Anna Grigolon and Karst Geurs. 🔎 Using location-based and space-time accessibility measures, the paper demonstrates how transportation infrastructure and policy changes can improve accessibility to non-mandatory activities in Sao Paulo, such as leisure and parks, particularly for lower-income groups. A striking result is that soft policies such as expanding the open hours of parks can result in higher accessibility gains compared to developing new public transport connections, especially for low-income groups. #Accessibility #PolicyChange #LowIncomeGroups https://lnkd.in/eQTk_Uey

📢 Another Exciting New Publication from Our Research Team!  🚀 In this new study, our researchers Mehrnaz Asadi, M. Baran Ulak, and Karst Geurs in collaboration with Wendy Weijermars from SWOV developed a cutting-edge methodological framework for conducting zone-based traffic safety and accessibility analyses. 📝 This innovative approach integrates route choice modelling and four-step modelling (including trip purpose, origin-destination, and alternative routes), resulting in a novel zone-based crash risk estimation that factors in traffic crashes and trip characteristics. 📊 The findings also showed the importance of considering route choice variations in accessibility analysis to avoid overestimating accessibility levels. #Accessibility #TrafficSafety #RouteChoice #Methodology Read more here 👇

📣 Two new publications from UTwente Transport Systems: 🚗Transport economics for shared mobility💰 Our colleague Alejandro Tirachini, together with Alisson García Herrera and Leonardo J. Basso published a paper focusing on the microeconomic analysis of ridesourcing market regulation policies in the journal Transportation Research Part A. The study develops a novel model using a Stackelberg game adapted for the analysis of ridesourcing systems, with several agents playing different roles in ridesourcing ecosystem. With this framework, researchers and policymakers can analyze the effects of different regulation policies on social welfare. 🔗https://lnkd.in/dt4BrHZP 🚋 Public transport 🚌 Our colleague Alejandro Tirachini, together with Mohammad Sadrani, Razieh Mirqasemi and Constantinos Antoniou published a paper studying the barriers to the electrification of bus systems through a fuzzy multi-criteria analysis in the journal Energy Conversion and Management. Their study analysed barriers to the adoption of electric vehicles comparing the situation of developed and developing countries for the first time in literature. The authors develop a multi-criteria decision-making approach to identify and rank 28 barriers to battery electric bus adoption, by means of a fuzzy best-worst method applied to a panel of experts across 31 countries worldwide. 🔗https://lnkd.in/d65RY_f7

Baran Ulak, and Karst Geurs develops a job accessibility assessment framework that integrates individual and household socio-demographic characteristics into a job accessibility assessment.
