In Nederland staan momenteel duizenden bedrijven op de wachtlijst voor een nieuwe of grotere aansluiting. Terwijl er aan de andere kant, kostbare duurzame energie met opzet wordt omgezet in nutteloze warmte om het stroomnet te balanceren. Ons stroomnet vormt niet alleen een probleem voor dagelijkse werkzaamheden, maar ook voor de verduurzaming van onze energievoorziening. Dit terwijl we niet langer kunnen wachten met de energietransitie. Ons stroomnetwerk staat dus onder hoogspanning. De wetenschap is druk bezig met nieuwe oplossingen. Zo werken ze in het ESP-lab van de TU Delft aan krachtigere stroomkabels. Want momenteel bestaat 30-40% van alle kabels uit zeer verouderd materiaal dat al bijna 100 jaar onder de grond ligt. Een andere oplossing kan zijn tijdelijke opslag van stroom als we hier te veel van hebben. Bijvoorbeeld in de vorm van thuisaccu’s of gigantische zeezoutbatterijen."
