The European Commission (EC) has announced the scale back of the sustainability reporting rules with two new proposals: Omnibus Simplification Package I and II, focusing on simplifying sustainability regulations for businesses in the EU. This means 80% less companies will still need to report under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).   But what does this mean for the yachting industry? Climate change and environmental degradation pose a critical threat globally. While recent deregulation may lessen immediate compliance pressures, it presents an opportunity to pro-actively shift our focus towards sector specific solutions. Exactly what Water Revolution Foundation was initiated for in late 2018. In these uncertain times, we call on the yachting community to take collective action and create together the compass to navigate unchartered waters. Goal driven rather than compliance driven. HVO: The New Fuel for Yachts  ⚓ Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is the quickest, cheapest and most significant solution available to decarbonise yachting here and now. Do we have your attention, yacht captains and managers? 😊 🔹Quick: HVO is available today! 🔹Cheap: It is a drop-in paraffinic fuel that can be mixed with diesel, there is no need for technical changes (cost), and engine manufacturers have certified most of their engines already (risk). 🔹Significant: Just by switching fuels, yachts can cut their CO2 emissions by 90%! 🌊 Huge News! We’re excited to share that we’ve received special accreditation for the 2025 UN Ocean Conference in Nice. This is a significant milestone in our mission to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. Since our inception, we've been dedicated to highlighting the intrinsic link between the yachting industry and the health of our oceans. This accreditation reinforces our public benefit organization status and strengthens our commitment to drive positive change. We're honoured to represent the yachting community and highlight its crucial role in ocean health. The #IMMA North West Atlantic project is one initiative that we have supported through pre-financing this work with a loan. This funding helped identify 43 new Important Marine Mammal Areas. 📢 We are proud to announce yachting’s collective positive impact through the identification of 82 new Important Marine Mammal Areas (#IMMAs) in the North Atlantic Ocean. This significant achievement results from the completion of two crucial projects: the North East (39 new #IMMAs) and the North West Atlantic project (43 new #IMMAs). 🌊🌊Important Marine Mammal Areas (#IMMAs) are selected areas of the ocean that are important to marine mammals. By highlighting the places that most matter, the #IMMA programme addresses the challenge of where to direct conservation resources. Marine mammals are nature’s own solution in the fight against climate change, truly fascinating. 🌍 💙Thanks to committed yachting companies and individuals we completed the funding of the North East project last year. In order for the North West project to start immediately after, we have pre-financed it through a loan. This means we are continuing our fundraising activity, where the yachting community now has the rare opportunity to already know the positive impact of the project they invest in and claim its effect, for various reasons, among which the CSRD obligation some companies have as of this year. #IMMA has been the pilot project for the Ocean Assist programme, which is now being further rolled out. Completing the North Atlantic Ocean #IMMA project not only proves yachting’s collective commitment to ocean’s health, but the responsibility it takes as private sector in the shift towards regenerative development. 🤝 Last week, F/YACHTING and Water Revolution Foundation co-hosted a unique workshop in Austria for superyacht designers, project managers, and shipyard representatives: The Future of Sustainable Design. The full-day programme enabled deep and honest conversations to define new collaborations to address and anticipate the evolving design needs in the industry: 🔹future-proofing design: choosing better materials with an LCA perspective, 🔹measuring the responsibility of our environmental impact as an industry, 🔹defining new concepts around sustainable luxury and how we design 🔹going "Beyond Teak". 💡 Did you know that 80% of environmental impact is determined after 20% of the design process is complete? In this intimate setting, Water Revolution Foundation also launched the new chapter of the Designers' Protocol: Alternative Decking Solutions, co-written by our Environmental Expert Awwal Idris and Teakdecking Systems, Inc..
