𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗻 💬 At our Dive In & Top 50 Women in Sustainable Finance event last week, keynote speaker Robert Baker highlighted a truth that can't be ignored: 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲, 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲. Quoting Gloria Steinem, he reminded us: “Once men realize that gender roles are a prison for them too, they become really valuable allies. Because they’re not just helping someone else, they’re freeing themselves.” In order to create lasting change, we need men to join the movement, not just as supporters but as active allies. Gender equality benefits everyone in the long term. We know the barriers women face in the workplace — amongst others: biased cultures, exclusionary networking, the pay gap — but for real change to happen, men must be part of the solution. As women, there are many actions we can do to actively engage men, to sum up a few: 💥 Build their awareness of the issues 💥 Invite them to discussions and events on inclusion 💥 Give constructive feedback on mistakes 💥 Reverse mentoring: coach them on what they can do & show what’s in it for them To put the inviting into action right away:  𝗠𝗲𝗻, we invite you to join us. Your voice, actions, and leadership are much needed. Let’s work together to create workplaces where inclusion isn’t an exception but the norm. Men who already engage as allies, report becoming: 📣 better leaders 📣 more empathetic 📣 more confident to challenge the status quo. 97% of male allies said they felt they became better human beings. So, we challenge you: where do you stand? 1. 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 - you are aware of and support the need for gender equity 2. 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 - you advocate the need for and promote gender equity 3. 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 - you are actively leading on gender equity 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿! - Important note: as we reflect on our event, we not only celebrate the role models who inspire us, but also acknowledge the important steps still needed in the areas of inclusion, diversity, and gender equality. Wow, we’re looking back at an exciting event with a vibrant and engaged audience at PGGM in Zeist Lars Dijkstra set the stage perfectly, opening with powerful words that paved the way for an inspiring afternoon of fresh perspectives: “Everybody says D&I, but inclusion comes first, and diversity then follows. The reverse is much more complex.” Keynote speaker Robert Baker highlighted the crucial role of male allyship in achieving gender equality. In his interactive session the experience, status quo and vision of the audience was taken into account. His challenge to the audience, “What is your commitment to action?” sparked meaningful conversations that carried through the event. Jury member of the Top 50 Women in Sustainable Finance, Rinke Zonneveld, shared an honest reflection after this key-note: “I thought I was a good ally, but there is still much more work to do.” On behalf of the entire jury - consisting of Marguerite Soeteman-Reijnen (chair), Cindy van Oorschot, Nicolette Loonen, Faisal Setoe, Stephan Veen and himself - Rinke launched the Top 50 Women in Sustainable Finance 2024. Top 50 nominees Geraldine Leegwater and Chantal Inen moved the room with their personal stories and vision, where leadership, sustainability, and inclusion were at the heart of their message. On a day like this, acknowledging the strength of women was essential. Seada van den Herik expressed: “You don’t need to step back thinking ‘maybe somebody else is better’; take your place.” A powerful call for self-confidence, which was further honored with a tribute to the departing WIFS board members Diana Zandbergen and Mirelle van Gemert, and the newly appointed board members, Chantal Korteweg and Indra Frishert. Moderator and WIFS board member Nelsy Salden-Rebbens led an interview with Chantal Korteweg and Indra Frishert. Their energy and vision made it clear that the future of WIFS is in excellent hands. As we reflect on this day, we not only celebrate the role models who inspire us, but also acknowledge the important steps still needed in the areas of inclusion, diversity, and gender equality. This renowned list of 50 impact makers was compiled for the 4th year, this year at the initiative of WIFS. Nominees of the Top 50 are committed to more sustainability in the financial sector and have demonstrable visibility and impact on this topic. This edition, the professional jury - consisting of Marguerite Soeteman-Reijnen (chair), Cindy van Oorschot, Nicolette Loonen, Faisal Setoe, Stephan Veen and Rinke Zonneveld - values in particular candidates who are working pragmatically on financial solutions in terms of climate mitigation and adaptation, nature conservation and restoration, as well as human rights. Meet Bernadette Blom, a trailblazer in sustainable finance, founding partner of FOUNT.eu, and a nominee of the Top 50 Women in Sustainable Finance 2023! After a successful career in investment banking and consultancy, Bernadette realized she wanted more purpose in her daily work. “In 2002, there weren’t many companies focusing on impact and purpose,” she recalls. This inspired her to co-found FOUNT, a strategic advisory and investment firm dedicated to driving social and environmental impact alongside financial returns in emerging markets.
