For the R&D Market Support group in Amsterdam we are looking for an:

Hydroprocessing Specialist (R&T Chemist)

The profile:

As hydroprocessing specialist in the R&D department within the Clean Fuels Technology (CFT) business unit you will take a leading role in expanding the performance know-how of our catalyst portfolio. You will be responsible for coordinating catalytic tests in our test units. Your work will directly impact our global business, technical service teams, and R&D projects. You will become an expert in the application fields of our catalysts, such as hydroprocessing of conventional feedstocks, upgrading of (waste) vegetable oils to renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel, and chemical recycling of waste plastic oils. You’ll elevate our understanding of catalyst performance in a challenging and continuous learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Hydroprocessing Tests: Design and manage catalytic tests in bench-scale units and pilot plans to evaluate catalyst performance to upgrade various fossil-based and renewable feedstocks. These tests will support R&D projects and customer-facing teams.
  • Quality Assurance: Act as the coordinator between the testing group, analytical team, and stakeholders to ensure high-quality data and statistically reliable results.
  • Data Analytics: Analyze and interpret data from application tests, leveraging data science techniques to gain valuable insights. Convert raw data into actionable insights.
  • Reporting: Prepare internal reports and presentations to communicate results effectively to stakeholders.
  • Expertise Development: Become a leading expert in hydroprocessing, contributing to our organization’s thought leadership.

Requirements:

  • PhD in chemistry or catalysis or related field with >5 years of relevant industrial experience, or MSc with >10 years of experience.
  • Experience with heterogeneous catalysts (preferably hydroprocessing catalysts).
  • Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: refining, catalyst testing, R&D, reactor engineering, kinetic modelling.
  • Capable of handling large datasets with attention for detail and accuracy; proficiency in R or Python is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data sets.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (proficiency in Dutch is preferred).
  • Managerial skills in managing employees from a (non-) hierarchical position.
