Establishing a hydrogen infrastructure to fuel the energy transition.
Over ons
We are convinced that green hydrogen is of pivotal importance for realizing the energy transition, and ultimately for sustainable, CO2-neutral economy. Together with all relevant stakeholders, ISPT is involved in establishing the hydrogen infrastructure that is needed for this transition. Given the relevance for both industry and the energy sector, and the scale associated with this, the focus is on large hubs for hydrogen production at strategic locations, connecting and integrating the process industry with the energy system of the future.

⚡ 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆: 𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗪 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 ⚡ Water electrolysis requires Direct Current (DC) at low voltage, but renewable electricity for green hydrogen production is typically supplied through an AC grid connection converting AC back to DC. It is therefore of interest to consider more optimised DC-DC connections for large-scale green hydrogen plants. Therefore, the ISPT - Institute for Sustainable Process Technology, in cooperation with Hitachi Energy and consortium partners Equinor, HyCC, Ørsted, Port of Rotterdam, and Yara International, has completed a feasibility study to explore a (hybrid) electrical layout, incorporating DC and AC connections. The study focuses on developing optimised power conversion schemes for a gigawatt (GW)-scale water electrolysis plant. The objective is to prepare a conceptual design for a converter topology that enables the integration of this new electrical layout, highlighting both its benefits and limitations. In this study, a new electrical layout with innovative power converters has been selected due to its relatively high level of maturity, proposed higher efficiency, potentially lowest complexity, costs and footprint. 𝗛𝘆𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Through the HyScaling consortium we aim to position the Dutch high-tech sector as a leader in the production of more efficient and cost-effective electrolysers. Over the past three years, HyScaling has collaborated with 29 innovative companies, SMEs, universities, and CROs to drive manufacturing innovation on technology development and integration. Realistic use cases, such as hydrogen for steelmaking, solar-powered hydrogen production in Portugal, and electrolysis for grid-balancing, have guided the HyScaling project, ensuring focus on real business applications. As the project concludes, our program director Andreas ten Cate reflects on the achievements and lessons learned, setting a vision for the next stage of developing a hydrogen economy. 🌍🔋 Follow the link in the comments to read the full article. ⤵️ #GreenHydrogen #EnergyTransition #Innovation #HyScaling #Hydrohub

𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻: 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲? Positive public perception is crucial for successfully upscaling green hydrogen. However, societal impacts like increased costs and landscape changes from production facilities and storage infrastructure can lead to resistance and local opposition, delaying or preventing project implementation and jeopardizing climate goals. This indicates that local residents may feel unheard, suggesting an unfair process. Alongside technological innovation, public perception must also be addressed. With the rapid development of green hydrogen and increased media coverage, understanding public perception is increasingly important. Recent studies on Dutch public perception have been limited, focusing on refueling stations, knowledge, and general opinion. Therefore, TNO assessed the Dutch public perception of green hydrogen and summarised the results in a report. During the second HyScaling #webinar, Melanie Klösters (TNO) presented the results of this public perception study. ▶️ Watch the webinar here: https://lnkd.in/eKKSqUZ5 Or download the report using the link in the comments. ⤵️ #HyScaling #PublicPerception #GreenHydrogen #HydrogenEconomy

𝗛𝘆𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 In 2019, TNO and ISPT - Institute for Sustainable Process Technology initiated the HyScaling consortium. This was the first large Dutch electrolyzer R&D consortium, with 30 parties working on advancing the #PEM and #Alkaline electrolyzer technologies. The project focused on innovative component development, manufacturing processes, and system designs to achieve higher efficiency, longer component lifetimes, and lower overall costs. In parallel, for each technology, use cases and actions plans have been devised to enable the upscaling of hydrogen production capacity to 5 GW by 2030.
