Over ons

LoRa stands for Long Range. LoRa is the IoT connectivity for devices which consume very little power and send small packages of data (messages). These devices can operate for up to 15 years on just two batteries. This enables the use of affordable wireless sensors which give insights into the usage of ‘things’. The collected data gives insights and opens up possibilities never used before. For example: a temperature sensor on every bridge will help predict and prevent malfunctioning when the temperature rises outside. LoRa Advantages as IoT Connection: 1. Low battery consumption: a LoRa device only consumes power when the data is sent. Sending the data is triggered by an event, such as a temperature that exceeds a certain threshold. Or an outdoor litter bin that is 90% full. Therefore, an IoT device with LoRa connectivity is very energy efficient. A Lifetime of up to 15 years for a sensor is possible. 2. Positioning: the LoRa network is able to calculate the position of the device with an accuracy of 50-150 meters. Without the need for additional technology or hardware. 3. Price: small data usage and small batteries means the complexity of a LoRa device is reduced to a minimum. Therefore, IoT devices can be produced with a minimum of costs. 4. Nationwide coverage in the Netherlands and rapid international expansion: the LoRa Alliance is a foundation that unites all telecom operators worldwide, focusing on setting the standard. So that all devices can use the same protocol, if they are moved to other countries. Roaming is expected to be ready from early 2018.
