Om oss
Eikund is an exclusive and international design brand located at Hellvik in Norway. We produce high-end design furniture classics that is made to last. Any Eikund product can be handed down from generation to generation. Our fundamental focus on quality gives our furniture a built-in sustainability; we would rather produce one good piece of furniture than two that will fall apart after a short period of use. In Eikund we do our best to prevent a throw-away culture. The emphasis we have on quality for our finished pieces is also included in our production process. This is why we source the best materials, which at the same time has a small impact as possible on the environment. We take the environmental aspect very serious by continuously improving all stages of production as we develop as a brand. We trace the origin of our wood, leather, fabric, basically everything. Eikund has a close dialogue with all suppliers, we will always strive for perfection in all levels.

For every treasure we revive from the archive, there are countless hours spent researching, adjusting and improving upon the original drawings. A great example of this are our extendable dining tables where we developed a new and modern extension mechanism in steel. The improved mechanism is stable and easy to use, and makes it possible to extend the tables further without using a center support leg. We worked together with our partner Pöttker GmbH in Germany to customize a solution that would be optimal for our use. The Øya dining table is 2.1 meters at its smallest, but with four leaves, it becomes 4.5 meters with room for 14 people. Like the original, the table is available in solid wood, but in oak instead of the darker wood types that were common in the mid-fifties. The Oma dining table is smaller with a 2 leaves max, and seats 8 people.

The Norwegian word for oak is “eik”. Our company name mirrors the main material used in our furniture production. Responsibly sourced an certified oak, made to last for years, and can withstand daily use for future generations. Oma and Øya are both made with solid oak frames with oil, white oil or smoke stained lacquer as standard surface finishes. Øya has the same options for the tabletop but with leaves in Black MDF/Black Fenix. Oma however, unlike the 1957 original, is made with a Fenix laminate tabletop and is available in the colours cream, black and green. “We choose Fenix laminate because it provides a modern expression with long durability. This material has won several awards and has a Greenguard Gold certificate. It has a matte finish that doesn’t show fingerprints, and superficial scratches disappear. For projects, it is possible to order the tabletop in several different colours” – Morten Hippe, Eikund

Eikund has gone through several thousand drawings to find favourites to be recreated in a modern form. It has resulted in a long list of treasures, so there is much to look forward to. “Since 1984, Rastad & Relling has been an architectural firm, but they have preserved the archive with thousands of drawings in the basement. It’s like a treasure trove, but it’s a time-consuming process to go through thousands of 1-1 full scale drawings. We have actually never seen the original Oma or Øya in real life. The products are solely based on the accurate and beautiful drawings we found”. – Morten Hippe, Eikund If you want to read more, check out this article: https://lnkd.in/dcGVapZM
