💡 NOK 86 Million in EU Funding to Reduce Ship Noise! 🌊🚢 Great news! The EU is investing NOK 86 million in our new LOWNOISER to reduce underwater noise pollution. With 15 partners across Europe, we're going to develop new technologies that make shipping quieter and greener: 🔹 Innovative solutions – air lubrication, low-noise engine mounts, fiber-optic monitoring 🔹 Real-world testing – including on HX Hurtigruten Expeditions' Roald Amundsen 🔹 New industry standards – supporting IMO and EU noise reduction regulations Underwater noise disrupts marine life, but with collaboration, technology, and smart regulations, we can build a sustainable future for our oceans and the shipping industry. Norway's Minister of Climate and Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, welcomes the partnership: — Norway is proud to be a leading player in developing green solutions for the shipping industry. Thanks to Horizon Europe, CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, and all our partners for making this happen! Brussels greeted us with rain and chilly weather, but the Ship-aH2oy team brought the sunshine! 🌦️☀️ Joined by our Project Officer George Sarros and Head of Sector, Aviation and Waterborne Research and Unnovation, Gabriel Mialocq of CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, we sat down to review our achievements so far and discuss our next steps. With the progress we've made in the first stage of the project, we’re ready to push ahead with the goal of demonstrating zero-emission shipping using liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) and fuel cell technology. Our clear mission is to turn this innovative concept into reality onboard one of Edda Wind’s cutting-edge offshore wind vessels 🚢 Big thanks to CINEA/European Commission and our partners for your support in this bold endeavour. The Ocean Charger project this week held the first project meeting of 2025 in Trondheim. Coinciding with the EERA DeepWind conference, it was two very productive and interesting days. 🌊 In the project’s third year, some very interesting outcomes are starting to appear, and these results formed an solid base for active discussions about how to enable battery-electric SOVs for maintenance of wind farms in the North Sea. The project’s third and final year will be important in the relentless work to remove the greenhouse gas emissions from offshore wind ship operations.
