To follow up on our first post in our mooting series:Mooting journey and navigating through deciding on which competition to participate in. Moot court competitions are mock trial events for law students, simulating court preparations and pleadings. They vary by jurisdiction and legal focus, such as human rights in the Price Media Law Moot, commercial arbitration in the SAM Shalakany Moot, investment arbitration in the FDI Moot, and international law in the Jessup Competition. Stay tuned to our mooting series for more insights on choosing the right competition. Now that you've decided on your desired competition, here are some tips for effective preparation based on my experience as a former mooter. First, review the past cases and pleading videos available on the competition's website. This will help you comprehend the various case patterns and pleading techniques that differ from one competition to the next. Most importantly, become acquainted with the case of the year for your competition. Even if your coaches do not want a time line chronology of the case facts, I strongly advise you to create one and save it to your drive, since you will most likely refer to it during your preparations and the day of the rounds. Next, it’s crucial to maintain an organized folder on your device to keep track of all your research and work. This organization is essential, as you’ll need to revisit your materials frequently. Additionally, gather extensive research about the jurisdiction and legal area relevant to your competition to grasp its legal scope fully. I also recommend using an online or hardcopy planner to help motivate you and keep you consistent and on track. Lastly, don’t underestimate the importance of bonding with your teammates. Spend quality time together as an icebreaker, as you will be working closely with them throughout this journey. Sharing experiences and insights will not only strengthen your teamwork but also enrich your mooting experience. With these preparations, you’ll be well on your way to a successful moot court competition!

Moot court competitions are international mock trials for law students, simulating court preparations and pleadings across various jurisdictions and legal areas. Examples include the Price Media Law Moot, focusing on human rights and media law under the European Court of Human Rights, the SAM Shalakany Arbitration Moot for commercial arbitration, the FDI Moot on investment arbitration, and the Jessup Competition addressing international law related to the International Court of Justice. These competitions typically feature national or regional rounds leading to international stages, where teams represent their universities, drafting memoranda and developing arguments for both sides. As a two-time participant, I aim to provide insights that may not be readily available, helping you choose a competition aligned with your growth goals. When selecting a moot court competition, consider your interests in specific fields and jurisdictions. Participating can help clarify your preferences, as some topics may not be as engaging as anticipated. Be mindful of your stamina and the time commitment required, particularly for more complex competitions like the Jessup and FDI moots. Balance your moot court activities with your university schedule to prevent burnout, but embrace the opportunity for growth. Mooting enhances your English, writing, and legal skills, while also developing essential soft skills. Reflect on whether you prefer topics relevant to the MENA region (like FDI and SAM) or broader international issues (like Jessup or Price Media), which will guide your competition choice. Engage with others about their moot court experiences for valuable insights, but remain true to your own preferences, as individual experiences vary. Review recent cases and, if possible, watch videos of past pleadings to understand the legal content and structure. The ultimate decision should reflect your goals and interests, recognizing that exploring different options is key to finding what you enjoy.

I participated in the career path symposium presented by the MPL Foundation through the Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law, Mansoura University. In which Professor Ibrahim Massad gave a detailed presentation, he began by introducing the MPL Foundation, then addressed an important topic that many students wonder about after graduation, which is “What happens after graduation?” He talked about the labor market and the challenges facing graduates of the Faculty of Law, where he explained that good thinking and advance planning for the future after graduation plays a major role in professional success. In fact, I benefited greatly from that seminar, and it expanded my understanding by learning about many of the fields available to graduates of the Faculty of Law, which I knew nothing about, and it gave me the opportunity to learn more about the most important requirements of the current labor market. Thank you, Mr. Ibrahim M. Saleh Thank you for this opportunity MS. Hadier Khaled Thanks to Legal Clinic Mansoura University , MPL Legal Academy
