PhD candidates Thomas Wallace and Mahsa Kalashami were two of 250 participants who participated in the Northern Lights Deep Learning Conference (NLDL) 2024 🤖❄👨🎓 🤖 The opportunity to network with other researchers with similar interests and experience the aurora borealis are two of many things they have looked forward to while visiting UiT- The Arctic University of Norway 👨🎓 - I have gotten to meet people that work on a lot similar things to my research but also in directions I did not expect. It has certainly been very valuable to me, says Wallace. 👩🎓 - An important thing is to get in touch with people who have had the same experiences as you in their PhD run. The presentation will explore the impact of generative AI as it replicates human-level content (images, sound, music, video), raising questions about individual and societal effects. As AI challenges our ability to trust our senses, we must adapt how we seek information and ensure reliable sources of truth. The talk concludes with a discussion on the implications for the future of democracy. Today’s dScience Lunch seminar was a full house 🏚 as Professor Antonio Martini from The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (Department of Informatics) presented on “Better Software for All: Using LLMs to Improve Software Development Practices” 🤩. It was fantastic to see a diverse group of attendees from industry, start-ups, and academia coming together to explore research and network.
