Last week, Pietro Grigorio Rabassi, Nord Pool's Executive Vice President - Western and Central Europe, took part in a panel discussion at the Energy Storage Global Conference in Brussels.    Key takeaways from the discussion included: ✅ the on-going energy transition to achieve a CO2-free economy means an increasing share of (intermittent) renewables in the power trading mix; ✅ higher renewable shares are reshaping price development (e.g. creating more volatility) and challenging the energy system balance. This means higher congestion and re-dispatch costs, at a magnitude of 38 billion EUR annually, at a European level; ✅ We see the need for flexibility as the importance of its role increases. It will be interesting to follow how the need for flexibility will be fulfilled at various levels (both TSO and DSO), with market-based procurement being central. A push for new regulations on demand response has been initiated by ACER: legal and design frameworks need to be harmonized at a European level to make flexibility markets scalable regionally, in a similar way to how the traditional power markets started by Nord Pool in the 1990s became the European target model. Today is World Mental Health Day, reminding us of the importance of mental well-being. This year’s theme, “Mental Health at Work,” highlights the impact of the work environment on our mental health. To foster a supportive and healthy work environment and contribute to work being a source of purpose, connection and growth, we wanted to raise awareness and promote well-being through various activities this week. A “Walk and Talk” event to encourage physical activity and open conversations was followed by a yoga session for relaxation and mindfulness. We also encouraged discussions by using conversation cards, providing healthy snacks and including Mystery Maths activities to stimulate cognitive engagement. Music lovers enjoyed a live concert organised by our Oslo office landlord, Mustad Eiendom. We will conclude the week with a webinar on supporting mental health in the workplace and a session on understanding mental health issues, aiming to reduce stigma. It has been great to see so many Nord Pool employees participating and supporting these initiatives and inspiring on-going activities throughout the year.
