Meeting with the Minister of Trade to Strengthen Norway's Industrial Competitiveness: Norway’s green transition and the development of a #zero_emission_industry hinge on expanding the supply of #renewable energy ("green carbons"). To remain competitive, Norwegian industry must prioritize increased power generation, energy efficiency, and investments in green technology. As part of the ongoing work on a new industrial policy, the government invited industry and business leaders to a conference and workshop at Kuben School in Oslo. During a panel discussion with #Minister_of_Trade_and_Industry #Cecilie_Myrseth, #Carsten_Dybevig, VP of Communication and Public Affairs at Norske Skog, outlined four key strategies to boost Norway’s energy-intensive industries: - Secure competitive power contracts for industrial players - Prioritize #energy_efficiency to release more energy for other uses - Maintain the #CO2_compensation scheme (offsetting the CO2 surcharge in energy prices) to prevent carbon leakage - Enhance #investment_incentives for the green mainland industry These measures aim to bolster the competitiveness of Norwegian industry in an increasingly challenging global market.

#Norske_Skog is among the 18 of Norway's 100 largest companies reducing emissions in line with the #ParisAgreement, according to the PwC's Climate Index 2024. Norske Skog has cut emissions across the operations and supply chains. Partner in PwC, Hanne Løvstad, says: "Clear #climateleadership means that leaders make decisions prioritizing #transition and long-term competitiveness, and are willing to plan for real emission cuts both in the short and long term." According to the report, companies that have established a #climatetransition plan are making greater strides. The primary drivers for #emissioncuts are new regulations, customer demands, and the desire to improve reputation. Norske Skog’s CEO Geir Drangsland says: “At Norske Skog, business strategy and sustainability go hand in hand. We have integrated reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as a key part of our business strategy. Together with our business partners, we can make a difference.” You may more information about the report on PWC's Norwegian web pages. Norske Skog’s EBITDA in the second quarter of 2024 was NOK 471 million, an increase from NOK 76 million in the first quarter of 2024. The second quarter EBITDA was positively impacted by insurance at Norske Skog Saugbrugs of NOK 338 million. Despite signs of positive developments in the publication and containerboard markets, closures are still required. The process to deliver a main study on the BCTMP-production project (bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp) at Saugbrugs has started. “ - We are receiving excellent feedback from our customers on our containerboard product quality, which is promising for our plan to deliver a total of 760 000 tonnes of packaging paper from Bruck and Golbey into the market in the coming years. Despite declining markets and reduced machine capacities, we are very pleased to have achieved an increased market share with higher sales volumes in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter last year,” says Geir Drangsland, CEO of Norske Skog. Profit before tax in the quarter was NOK 311 million compared to loss before tax of NOK -382 million in the previous quarter. During the quarter, Norske Skog refinanced the EUR 150 million secured bond with a five-year NOK 1 400 million unsecured bond at a lower interest rate.

The new thermomechanical production line (TMP) at Norske Skog Skogn AS was officially opened yesterday. This was celebrated with, amongst others, Skogn employees, external companies which have contributed on the project, and the Acting Mayor of Levanger Nina Bakken Bye. Thanks to everyone who attended to celebrate this important milestone with us! A special thanks to Norske Skog Skogn employees and external companies which have been key in order to complete this project on time and within budget! 👏 Arild Hegdal (Process Manager), Hågen Buran (project Manager of the new steam converter) and Roger Mathisen (Project Manager of Switch) have all had vital roles in the realization of the new TMP line 🌲 Key facts about the Switch Project: · The new thermomechanical production line (TMP) replaces expensive recycled paper with fresh fibre. · More than 70% of the equipment is second-hand, reducing our carbon footprint with approximately 500 tons of CO2, and major cost savings ♻ · A fossil CO2 reduction of around 80% has been calculated, and the NOx emissions will be reduced by around 40%. The ash reduction is estimated at around 60% "As a company, we are concerned about sustainability at every step of the value chain. The vast majority of the equipment is reused from other mills in the industry, which have chosen to close or convert their production. Our skilled employees have seen this opportunity and utilized it to create a very cost-effective project," says Håvard Busklein, Managing Director at Skogn.
