    Sometimes we need to check under the hood of a car to figure out what’s going on. That’s kind of what a spinal tap (or lumbar puncture) does—but for our nervous system. It helps doctors get a sample of the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord to check for infections, neurological conditions, or other issues. So, when do we actually need to do one? 💊 Checking for infections like meningitis or encephalitis, which can cause fever, confusion, or a stiff neck. 🦋 Diagnosing neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS), where specific proteins in the fluid can indicate nerve damage. 🎈 Evaluating unexplained headaches or conditions like pseudotumor cerebri, where pressure inside the brain is too high. ✍🏻 Ruling out bleeding in the brain (like a subarachnoid hemorrhage) if someone has a severe, sudden headache. The procedure itself is usually done in the lower back while we either lie on our side or sit up and lean forward.     Urinating is something we all do—it’s our body’s way of getting rid of waste and keeping things balanced. But for many of us, especially as we get older, urination can become more difficult. The culprit? Changes in the prostate. The tricky part is that both an enlarged prostate (BPH) and prostate cancer can affect how we pee, but they’re very different conditions. BPH stands for benign prostatic hyperplasia, which is just a fancy way of saying “non-cancerous prostate growth.” It’s incredibly common—by age 60, more than half of us have some degree of BPH. The problem is that as the prostate gets bigger, it can squeeze the urethra, making it harder for us to urinate. Snoring happens when air has trouble moving through our nose and throat while we sleep. The air squeezes through tight spaces, making the tissues in our airway vibrate—and that’s the sound we hear. It’s kind of like when we pinch the end of a balloon and let the air out. The smaller the opening, the louder the noise.
