We are thrilled to share a recent installation of a Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. propeller blade part onboard BW Epic Kosan vessel Epic Salina. The part was manufactured using Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technology in Nickel Aluminium Bronze. Using WAAM, we enhanced the part’s performance, resulting in a 40% increase in strength with an almost fully dense component. With a lead time of just four weeks, this project showcases the transformative potential of on-demand manufacturing. “We are excited to partner with Pelagus 3D on this project, the WAAM propeller blade and sleeve of the bow thruster were very similar to the original existing blades and no operational challenges were noted. Congratulations to Pelagus 3D on its first anniversary and an impressive journey. 🎉 The colleagues have accomplished a great deal so far, including the signing of various Memorandums of Understanding, including with Doosan Enerbility, the American Bureau of Shipping, and Immensa. The goal: advancing the adoption of innovative technologies and #OnDemandAdditiveManufacturing for the #maritime and #OffshoreIndustries, as well as the energy sector. 🤝 Of course, the exchange of ideas was also important: In addition to participating in the 2nd Additive Manufacturing Workshop, one of Petrobras's largest events in Brazil, Pelagus 3D also presented concepts and initiatives for developing more sustainable spare parts supply chains using additive manufacturing at SMM and ONS 2024. 🚀
