As a company, we focus on processes just as much as results. You could even say that SBX is named after the process that created it - not some specific abbreviation. While our concept has been public for nearly 3 years, confidentiality was a core element of SBX's development, mostly resulting from the simplicity of the solution that we discovered in 2018. Even with our development partners, we often referred to the product and project as "Project X" for years working with EKER DESIGN , Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt - FFI, Independent medical research institutes, and our backpack partners. You can see some critical milestones from "Project X" below during the secret project period of 2019-2023. here Each one of these milestones is detailed on our website: https://www.safeback.no

It's been an incredibly impressive week in Norway, where we had the privilege of partnering with Safeback SBX Avalanche Survival System. Together, we successfully demonstrated and tested the SBX system in live avalanche conditions, pushing the boundaries of innovation in extreme environments. #mountainrescue #survivalgear Great work, Sigmund Andreassen and Stuart Taylor for for showcasing the SBX and enjoying the stunning vistas!

Before SBX was patented and we felt comfortable sharing the idea with the market, Safeback was largely working in secret with the help of research institutions such as the Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt - FFI, Norway's Defence Research Establishment, to help refine our system's function and design. The FFI provided us with funding and research supervisors who helped us to design and execute experiments in the snow that would solidify causal effects of SBX's airflow towards improved breathability of air around the face of a buried victim. They published a story chronicling one of our field studies here: https://lnkd.in/d_NfFx8n

“To me, the SBX system is the final layer of risk reduction should an accident occur. SBX being so light and with a well-researched ability to delay asphyxiation in an avalanche burial, it’s a no-brainer to keep it on the list of items I carry daily and has become just as essential to my kit as my transceiver, shovel, and probe.” Sarah MacGregor, AMGA Splitboard Guide Please help us welcome our newest Safeback team member, Sarah MacGregor - one of the first AMGA Splitboard guides in the country and 1 of 3 women in the world who has passed a ski guide certification on a splitboard. Sarah was among the first North Americans to test Safeback SBX as a professional user and has contributed feedback since 2022. In addition to helping us refine the product, we have huge respect Sarah’s passion for avalanche education and femme participation in the backcountry, and being a part of the pioneering group of splitborders who are helping to shape mentorship and standards for backcountry movement on a splitboard. In the 2021 and 2022 winters, th is was how and where we spent our time and energy - making burial simulations to study how SBX can improve air quality in front of the face of a victim buried under dense avalanche snow. We have spent 10,000 hours becoming experts in gas mechanics in snow, and the SBX sold today is a direct result of that knowledge. More about our research and testing can be found on our website: https://lnkd.in/g92WW9jK

The "Avalanche Survival Curve" is one of the most famous pieces of analysis in the avalanche rescue world, and has now been updated with 40 years of avalanche accident data in Switzerland. Their findings from the team at Eurac Research are now published in JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association, and were presented at ICAR-International Commission for Alpine Rescue at this year's congress. Having sat in the presentation ourselves, we wrote a summary of the paper's findings.
