Give me an O… Give me an M… Give me an E…. (this could go on for a while so just check out the photo below). Some of us Shipnetters have just returned from the Volaris Biennial (every 2 years) conference in Cancun - Quadrants2024. Here Volaris bring together their software businesses from many different verticals, including marine, it’s the largest software event of its kind and we were so excited to be part of it. It is a week-long event, jam packed with keynote speakers’ thanks Mark Miller and Mike Dufton, and literally hundreds of different sessions to choose from throughout the week. The purpose? Well, you can learn from other businesses as to what they are doing right, and sometimes, more importantly, what's not going so well, so we can avoid and pivot where needs be. Basically, shared learnings for best practice. For us, it’s a chance to really look at our business and how we can continually improve the service we are providing for the benefit of our customers, what better way than shared, lived experiences. Omegro is the Portfolio we are part of within the Volaris group, along with some of our other marine friends, such as Spectec and Idea. Hidden within the image you will see some of those Shipnet faces - Paula Summers, our lovely new HR Director and at the other end Andrew Ward our tenacious Sales Director. You will also see Terje Kristiansen, but I am saving that for a Travels with Terje post… Now…. Most of us seem to have a drink in our hand and I would like to say mine was lemonade but alas it wasn’t… but it was the last day beach party, and it would be rude not to drink a Margherita or 3 when in Mexico. I can’t stress enough how events like this advance and grow businesses within the Volaris stratosphere. We learnt a lot; we laughed a lot, and we came back with ideas that we are already putting into action. Big thanks to all involved. Suffice to say I am happy not to see any Tequila for… a couple of weeks at least. #quadrants2024 #sharedlearning #growyourbusiness #margheritas

So: #quadrants2024. One of the genuine joys about working for a Volaris Group company is the L&D events where you get to rub shoulders with all sorts of very clever people. This year it is Cancun, and I’ve spent the last day or two learning from some of the very best. I’ve also been privileged to talk to peers about our voyage setting up our account management function, and our quest to deliver better product, service and support to the maritime industry. It’s a genuinely great event, and if anyone is considering joining one of our companies, please get in touch and I’ll be happy to walk you through this stuff in more detail. And it’s always lovely to see our name up in lights.

This World Menopause Day, we're proud to announce the launch of Shipnet's Menopause Policy, alongside supporting resources designed to offer guidance and support to our colleagues. This policy provides essential information for our People Managers and reinforces our commitment to fostering openness and acceptance in the workplace. We believe in creating an environment where important life stages like menopause can be discussed and supported, ensuring our people feel understood and valued. "The launch of our new menopause policy is a great step forward. I am really pleased that we can talk about this so openly now, and that Shipnet is supporting women at this time. Most of us women will eventually experience menopause, so having a workplace that understands the reality of what is happening and how the impact may be felt both to the person and to the business is wonderful. It's not an illness, it's part of life and one that needs to be discussed and understood – so I am really happy Shipnet is supporting this." At Shipnet, we recognise that most women will experience menopause at some stage. Yet, it’s still a taboo subject in many workplaces. This silence often leaves colleagues to suffer in silence when experiencing symptoms. We want to change that. Small changes in the work environment can make a world of difference, allowing women to continue thriving in their careers without compromise. Together, we are committed to breaking down barriers and normalising conversations about menopause in the workplace. #Shipnet #WorldMenopauseDay #SupportInTheWorkplace #MenopauseAwareness #ShipnetCares #InclusiveWorkplaces

Yesterday was World Mental Health Day, and it was a great reminder to prioritise mental health every day, not just once a year! This year's theme? Workplace Mental Health—something we're passionate about at Shipnet. Here’s what we’ve been doing to keep our team feeling good: • We’ve got 5 Mental Health First Aid Champions on board, regularly brainstorming ways to support our crew. • Our monthly communication, Staying Afloat, dives into different mental health themes to keep us all in check. • Plus, we’ve introduced some awesome initiatives aimed at boosting everyone’s wellbeing. This week, to keep the conversation going: • We're joining the #Toiletdoorcampaign with the Mental Health Charter, spreading mental health awareness around our offices and online. • We encouraged everyone to take 30 minutes for a Tea & Talk—because sometimes, it’s nice to chat about anything but work! • Shared tips on spotting burnout, practicing self-care, and how to talk openly about mental health. • Lastly, we’re getting our team to share their own health tips, because we can all learn something new from each other. Let’s keep this conversation going all year round! #Shipnet #OneShipnet #WorldMentalHealthDay #TeaAndTalk

Travels with Terje Our esteemed CEO Terje Kristiansen has been travelling a bit recently, in fact quite a lot, and I am afraid I have not been as diligent with my travel posts. He will be somewhere rather exciting soon, so keep your eyes peeled, I may even be with him… Even when Terje is on holiday, he manages to find a small corner to check in on us all and make sure we are all personally ok and our teams and departments are all in good order, progressing as we need. It's reassuring and although we say, "go away, forget us for a week" he still checks in. You see, it makes him feel better, more connected and more aware and when he feels that, he can enjoy his down time more. He trusts us, he knows how hard we all work and that we are all focussed on delivery and growth, but because he is a brilliant CEO and a thoroughly decent human - we want him to do what he needs to do and who doesn’t love a chat with Terje. I hope you all have a CEO or boss like Terje, it just makes working so much better, and as we spend a good chunk of time with the people we work with, and life is hard enough sometimes, that is worth its weight in gold. I am aware I sound like I am sucking up to the boss, but I am not, he really is just a good person and great at what he does. (I expect that £50 in the post Terje). #whygoodcolleaguesmatter

On behalf of the entire Shipnet team, we would like to extend our heartfelt wishes to those celebrating the vibrant and meaningful festival of Navratri. This special occasion, spanning nine nights, honors the divine energy of Goddess Durga in her many forms and symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. As you partake in the prayers, rituals, and celebrations, whether through fasting, dancing, or reflection, we wish you joy, prosperity, and spiritual renewal during this festive period. May the blessings of Navratri bring success, peace, and happiness to you and your families. Happy Navratri! #Shipnet #OneShipnet #HappyNavratri

At Shipnet, we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti by reflecting on the values of peace, perseverance, and leadership that Mahatma Gandhi embodied. As Shipnet's Muthu shares, "Gandhi Jayanti is a significant national holiday in India, celebrated on October 2nd to honor the 'Father of the Nation.' This day not only commemorates Gandhi's life and legacy but also serves as a reminder of his philosophy of non-violence, which has inspired civil rights movements worldwide. On this day, recognised globally as the International Day of Non-Violence, our Shipnetters share their favorite inspirational quotes in honour of his message of peace and harmony." #Shipnetter #OneShipnet #Shipnet #GandhiJayanti

Terje Kristiansen, CEO of Shipnet: Today we celebrate World Maritime Day, and I want to take a moment to reflect on the personal experiences that shape the work we do here at Shipnet. The maritime industry has always been about more than just ships and cargo—it's about people, safety, and innovation. These are things that really resonates with us. As CEO of Shipnet I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the maritime industry evolve from basic satellite communications to AI-powered solutions. But the future isn’t just about technology—it’s about transparency and safety. Niall Jack, our Director of Products, recalls his time at sea, battling endless paperwork and wondering if it truly made the work safer. That’s one of the driving forces behind the tools we develop today. As he says, “If software and support mechanisms for safe working don’t make it easier to work safely, they could become a risk themselves.” And Anil Bhardwaj, our Product Manager, shares an unforgettable lesson from his early days as a marine engineer: “One hand for work, the other for yourself.” It’s these lessons that continue to guide him in designing products that put safety at the forefront of everything we do. Their stories are a reminder that no matter where you are in the industry—on a ship or behind a desk—safety isn't just a guideline, it’s a mindset. It’s what drives us to innovate and improve the technology we provide to the maritime world. Check out their full insights and experiences in our latest blog post. https://hubs.la/Q02RcbZk0 #WorldMaritimeDay #SafetyFirst #Innovation #MaritimeTechnology #Shipnet
