@: Bård Wathne Tveiten, Hans V. Heard of vessels of opportunity 🚢? Amongst other things, they can collect research data while going about their daily business. They can sometimes collect more data 💾 over longer periods than a research cruise - saving research funding and the environment at the same time. Our partner in SFI Harvest, TGS, has shared large datasets with us, to help us figuring out where and when the copepod Calanus 🦐 can be caught. Calanus may prove to be a valuable source of nutrients. "Commercial ship collects valuable research data": https://lnkd.in/dQNJN9iF Thanks to TGS' Einar Nielsen, SFI Harvest Director Ingunn Marie Holmen and PhD candidate Torstein Nordgård-Hansen for explaining how. SFI Harvest is financed by Norges forskningsråd.

Need to analyse complex, floating structures such as floating offshore wind turbines, semisubmersibles, offshore fish farms or advanced marine operations? We have just updated our SIMA software, which can analyse floating structures in combination with waves 🌊, wind 💨 and currents 🌪️. For those in the know, the SIMA 4.8.0 release includes: · Chain cross section wizard · Fibre Rope Wizard and numerical improvements · Storage of the touch down point (TDP) location · Marine Growth input for NORSOK N-003 · Added missing signals to Bladed style controller · User defined skew wake parameter · Wind files from TurbSim (OpenFAST version 3.2.0 and later) · Improved condition result presentation · Catenary Line characteristics as static results · View from side in 3D More details are available at: https://lnkd.in/d3bSYg2a Licensing and support for SIMA is provided by DNV: https://lnkd.in/d9fUPCnD @: Ole Andreas Hermundstad, Gro Sagli Baarholm, Marit Kvittem, Arne Fredheim, #SIMA, #simulationtool, #offshore, #marine, #offshorewind, #aquaculture

You can now download data for free from our open ship design and test platform SINTEF Ocean Bulk Carrier (SOBC-1)! 🎉🎉🎉 “SOBC-1 enables us to share and cooperate on an open geometry, and furthers our efforts and research into important challenges surrounding green shipping. This benefits both us and others who conduct research and development on the ships of the future,” says Research Director Dariusz Fathi. SOBC-1 is designed as a dry bulk carrier, with a total length of 200 metres and a displacement of about 50 000 tonnes 🚢. The data are based on SOBC-1’s hull design, propeller and rudder, and can be used to explore and model environmentally friendly solutions such as modern sails ⛵ (wind propulsion), alternative fuels⛽ and new types of engines 💚.
