✨ Reflecting on InLifeScience 2024: A day of insight and collaboration On Wednesday we gathered at Forskningsparken - Oslo Science Park for an inspiring and thought-provoking day focused on the future of global and planetary health, and the role of life sciences. The event featured engaging keynotes, insightful panels, and lively discussions around AI, immunology, women’s health, bioresources, nutrition, sustainability, and health innovation. From exploring the potential of AlphaFold, Rosettafold and CRISPR with Ishita Barua, MD PhD and Sigrid Bratlie, to reflecting on planetary health solutions with Olav Kjørven, to delving into data-driven nanobody design with Roberto Spreafico, our audience experienced groundbreaking advancements in the industry. The life science export panel emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships, robust funding, and leveraging existing knowledge when exploring new markets. In the bioresources session, speakers stressed the urgent need for a paradigm shift in utilizing the earth's limited resources. They explored strategies for turning byproducts from the food industry into valuable materials, innovative technologies for sustainable production, and the role of nutrition in shaping healthier and more sustainable food systems. In the health session, discussions focused on translating science into societal impact through industry-academia collaborations and how strong agreements ensure excellent science, industrial usefulness, and shared benefits. The women’s health session discussed both women-only diseases like endometriosis, and the joint largest killers such as stroke and heart disease. The bias presents both through research choices and clinical trials, to understanding of symptoms and treatment. The immunology session delved into the vast opportunity space presented by our immune system, and how the “twin revolution” AI x biotech can result in much faster and more tailored molecules for treatment of disease. The investor panel highlighted the importance of capital efficiency and strategic partnerships, emphasizing on building early, long-term investor relationships. Valuable remarks from Anita Leirvik North, Vice Mayor for Culture and Business Development, and Ole Johan Borge, Director of Health and Public Sector Norges forskningsråd, closed the event. Ole Johan Borge reflected: "Bringing together students, researchers, start-ups and industry professionals is crucial. These connections and shared experiences are what drive innovation and push the life science sector forward." 🙏 A huge thank you to all our speakers, panellists, moderators, collaborators, program committee, and participants! Your insights and energy made this event a true success.
