Five Nights at Freddy's Movie Screenplay Tossed by Game Creator

The script for a movie adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's was "wrapped up and greenlit" by producer Jason Blum and director Chris Columbus, but has been thrown out because the game's creator, Scott Cawthon, claimed it didn't match his vision.

As reported by Variety, via an update by Cawthon on Steam's forums, he claimed that he "had a different idea for it," and one that he liked better.

"It’s been a real challenge for everyone, including myself, to come up with a good screenplay for this." Scott explained. "But I’m determined to find the right story. I’m sticking to what I’ve always said, either the right movie gets made or no movie gets made."

He also mentioned that this movie, and any potential sequels, will "take place in the universe of FNAF 1-3 only," as he felt "this was the best portion of the storyline to really focus on."

In addition to the film, he gave small updated for upcoming projects in the Five Night at Freddy's universe, including the VR and AR projects.

Five Night's at Freddy's VR is around "40% complete" and Cawthon is working with a company called Steel Wool to help bring this project to light. He promised that, for the first time, we will get to "see an actual stage performance from the classic band!"

The AR project is at 10% complete, the console ports are 20% complete, and FNAF: Into Madness, a game that is a "compilation of several ideas in the same vein as Update 2; just a free game for the fanbase," is a dream project for Scott that is currently 0% complete.

That's not all, as Scott is working on a "BIG deal" to create a AAA game and is 20% through writing a new line of books from Scholastic that will "be a collection of short horror stories that takes place in the FNAF universe."

Five Nights at Freddy's launched in 2014 and has had six main series titles, with the latest being 2017's Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator.

Chris Columbus, who also directed a couple Harry Potter films, signed on to direct earlier this year.

IGN has reached out to Blumhouse Productions, who took over for Warner Bros. Pictures in 2017, for an additional comment and this story will be updated with any further information as it arrives.
