🐔 A French study has added more knowledge to our understanding of the complex emotional lives of chickens. Researchers found that hens express contentment and calm by fluffing their head feathers and even blush when reacting to excitement or fear. This momentary skin redness—like human blushing—is an emotional response to both positive and stressful events. The ability to use facial skin redness to infer the emotional state opens a wide window to being able to better understand the emotional experiences of birds. Great news! Kewpie mayo have published their cage-free commitment. As the largest egg purchaser in Japan, Kewpie's commitment will cover a minimum of 200 million eggs per year by 2030 - that's a huge number of hens who will be freed from cages.  #Kewpie #cagefree

🚨 Big news from the UK! Our friends at RSPCA and The Humane League UK are heading back to court to fight for chickens' right to live without pain and suffering. They're challenging the use of unnaturally fast-growing breeds raised for meat. Birds bred to grow so quickly that many can barely walk more than two steps before collapsing from painful lameness 💔 It's not natural and it's not necessary.
