Safety is core to our work every day at Auckland Airport, but it was great to highlight it as part of Airport Safety Week. Run annually by Australian Airports Association across Australian and NZ airports, Airport Safety Week is an opportunity to reflect and celebrate all that is awesome about our people and our airport. This year’s theme “hearts and minds of Safety Leadership” was threaded through a series of events across the week, including the return of the Apron Safety Pit Stop to show the importance of teamwork and vigilance in our busy airside environment, airside bus tours sharing our changing work environment with our stakeholders and all the amazing webinars from Australian Airports Association.  As part of the week, we hosted a half-day Health Safety Representatives forum at our beautiful marae, Te Manukanuka o Hoturoa, with Auckland Airport health and safety reps welcoming health and safety reps from some of the key organisations working at Auckland Airport. Our safety focus is strongest when we’re working together, so it was great for everyone to explore their role as safety leaders, putting our own oxygen masks on first with some wellbeing engagement and finishing by participating in a SafeTea podcast on what being a safety leader means to them! With a once in a generation infrastructure build underway as we continue operating the airport around the clock, safety leadership, particularly at the frontline, has never been more important.

Tis the season to give back! Auckland Airport’s Twelve Days of Christmas 2024 is here, and we’re thrilled to help deliver $120,000 in Christmas cheer to our South Auckland community! This year, 12 deserving charities will each receive a $10,000 grant to support the incredible mahi they do, thanks to the generous donations from travellers who dropped their unwanted currency into the collection globes in our terminals. We’ll also shine a spotlight on these charities, partnering with the New Zealand Herald to share their inspiring stories in the lead-up to Christmas. Are you a South Auckland charity? We’d love to hear from you! Applications are open for charities that support this vibrant community. Submit by 5pm on Friday 1 November. Visit https://lnkd.in/gs-87kVz to submit your entry, today.

Auckland Airport is building for the long haul, providing the essential resilience and capacity needed to support New Zealand’s economy and the future of travel. Today we announced we are partnering with Downer Group subsidiary Hawkins Limited to manage the construction and delivery of the domestic jet terminal building. It’s the major structure in our terminal integration programme, which is already well underway and over 20% complete. This next major phase of development involves expanding the international terminal further to the east to construct the new domestic jet terminal building. The facility’s focused on doing the basics well, delivering 44% more processing space for travellers and 26% more airline seat capacity. A key highlight for travellers will be a short indoor walk between domestic jet services and international flights. Pile foundations are now going in. Set to open 2029.

Travellers are in for an improved experience with an upgrade to the check-in at the international terminal. Starting this summer, you'll begin noticing the gradual rollout of self-service kiosks and automated bag drops designed to save you precious time – up to 13 minutes. It's going to take time, with hoardings in place and changes to the check-in area. Airport and airline teams will be on hand to assist if you need help, but we ask for your patience while we get underway with these improvements.

The new Transport Pick-Up Zone opened today, bringing the majority of commercial pick up services closer to the terminal, including on-demand taxis, rideshare and Super Shuttles (majority of all commercial pick ups at the airport). This means quicker connections for travellers, reducing the walking time to these services to 2 minutes. Courtesy shuttles to off-airport rental car, parking and hotel operations will stay in their current location, while premium taxi services have the flexibility of three different locations to operate from. Signs will lead you from the terminal to the right spots. Check out our website for more details: https://lnkd.in/gU_Kj4c7

We’ve heard travellers’ feedback and brought forward the opening of the new Transport Pick-Up Zone to next week, meaning people won’t need to walk nearly as far for on-demand taxis, rideshare and Super Shuttle pick-ups. The finishing touches are going on the new transport facility now, and from 10 September it will open to travellers. Located next door to the international terminal arrivals area, on-demand taxis, rideshare and Super Shuttle pick-up services will now be just a two minute walk away for travellers arriving at Auckland Airport. We hope it will be a big improvement for customers. The new facility also offers plenty of shelter with 180metres of new covered pick up area. Courtesy shuttles to off-airport rental car, parking and hotel operations will stay in their current location. Premium pre-booked taxi services have the flexibility of three locations: -             Their current location (behind the Transport Hub) -             Undercover spaces inside the Transport Hub Priority Zone -             Plus bookable kerbside VIP spaces outside the international arrivals area – with the closest possible pick-up point to the international terminal. For travellers using Total Mobility transport operators, a dedicated pick-up point right outside the international terminal at door 11 will continue to be available for pre-booked journeys. Earlier this month, we hosted our inaugural Aviation Wildlife Safety Conference. Over 60 professionals from across Aotearoa gathered for two days to hear from sector experts from around the world speak on common wildlife risks and bird diseases, plus focus on their own wellbeing needs working in this space. They were not only informed but also given a hands-on experience through airside tours and interactive sessions with essential equipment—tools that will be increasingly vital as our mahi in this space continues to grow. The forum served as an important networking platform, where attendees and stakeholders were able to build stronger connections and share best practices and were encouraged to speak openly about the critical factors that influence the effectiveness of wildlife teams in fast-paced airport environments. Thanks to Lucy Hawley | Spencer Dowson | Dana Beissel | Dan Wignall | Carrie Hurihanganui | Chloe Surridge | Darren Evans | Melanie Dooney, and our amazing Wildlife team for making this event happen.
