Can long-range drones finally bridge the gap in remote healthcare logistics? Volatus Aerospace has announced a new strategic partnership with Swiss-based RigiTech, integrating the Eiger long-range delivery drone into its expanding medical drone delivery network. The Eiger, capable of transporting 3 kg payloads up to 100 km, is equipped with advanced avionics and a safety recovery parachute, offering an ideal solution for extended-range medical logistics. Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus Aerospace, emphasized that the Eiger will enhance Volatus’ capabilities beyond its current local delivery drone, the Canary, allowing the company to serve more remote and underserved areas from its control centers in Toronto and Edmonton. Adam Klaptocz, CEO of RigiTech, noted the partnership enables large-scale deployment of the Eiger in real-world conditions, leveraging Volatus’ infrastructure and operational expertise to support medical and rural supply chains across Canada and beyond. The addition of long-range platforms like the Eiger underscores the growing demand for automated, scalable, and reliable delivery solutions. But in an increasingly crowded drone delivery market, will operational range be the defining factor—or will regulatory hurdles remain the real constraint? What’s next for general aviation under new GAMA leadership? James Viola has officially taken over as President and CEO of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), becoming the sixth person to lead the organization since its founding in 1970. He succeeds Peter Bunce, who held the position since 2005. Viola brings over 35 years of aviation experience, including service as a US Army aviator, Federal Aviation Administration executive, and most recently, President and CEO of Vertical Aviation International (VAI). At VAI, Viola led the organization’s rebranding from Helicopter Association International (HAI), expanding its focus to encompass the rapidly evolving vertical aviation sector. At the FAA, Viola held leadership roles in general aviation safety, and his extensive background includes over 8,000 flight hours, multiple master’s degrees, and certifications as an Airline Transport Pilot and Flight Instructor. In his opening remarks, Viola emphasized GAMA’s continued mission to advocate for policies that drive innovation and growth in general aviation while maintaining safety and regulatory standards. With new technologies, shifting policy priorities, and rapid developments in both fixed-wing and vertical aviation, will GAMA under Viola’s leadership strike the right balance between innovation and oversight?
