Throwing it back to our review on the beautiful "Awatea" Legacy Marine L35! Whakatane’s Shaw family have produced high-quality, award-winning aluminium trailer boats for over 20 years. It is the family behind the renowned Extreme aluminium trailer boat range, but Glenn Shaw always wanted to build offshore cruising boats capable of completing voyages beyond the scope of most trailer boats. So, the Shaw family drew on its boating DNA to create Legacy Marine, producing a range of high-quality aluminium motoryachts to fulfill that goal. The very first Legacy 35 (L35) was built for the team behind Hauraki Express. Hauraki Express is a water taxi and fishing charter business, which means it has high expectations of its fleet. Vessels must be able to cope with adverse weather and sea conditions, have decent range and good fuel economy, and carry big payloads for their size. Boat Review Buccaneer Six Fifteen Based on the well-known Buccaneer 605 hull, the Buccaneer Six Fifteen has increased the 605’s waterline length and buoyancy to accommodate the additional weight of the hardtop. The sheerline has been raised slightly to ensure the hardtop looks right and sits well. The transom angle has also been increased to 19 degrees. Overall, these changes have enhanced the boat’s visual appeal and helped ensure it handles and performs as it should. Creating a new fibreglass GRP design requires time, effort, and investment. Led by Gerry and Wade Gerrand, the Hamilton-based Buccaneer crew calculated that the Six Fifteen model would require an 5% more buoyancy. Increasing buoyancy helps the boat support more weight and adds stability. Any potential performance and fuel consumption penalties, particularly at higher speeds, resulting from increased drag were not apparent during our testing session. Divecat Relaunched - DIY Boating “Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are busy doing it” – George Bernard Shaw On Waitangi day February 6, 2020 my boat DiveCat sank while on the way home from a dive trip out to Great Barrier Island. The details of that event have been documented in this magazine, as has my search for her and eventual salvaging of the wreck on Easter Saturday 2022. This was followed by nearly two years of hard work, cleaning the hull back to bare metal and then the slow process of rebuilding her section by section. Readers of this magazine will have seen the many challenges that I faced during that rebuild, not to mention the disastrous effect this has had on my bank balance. But the project all came to fruition February 8, 2024 when DiveCat was put back into the water, some four years and two days after that fateful day when she sank below the surface… Read the full story on our Boating New Zealand website >> https://lnkd.in/gRrp5YF9 #divecat #diyboating #boatingrenovations #boatingproject #beforeandafters #boatingindustry #boatingnewzealand #boatingnewzealandmagazine #marinemediapr #boatiesofinstagram

Boatbuilding, like any worthy endeavour, takes time. And, as anyone who has built a boat will know, it usually takes longer than expected. But this 12m (39-foot) Kevin Dibley-designed canting keeler has taken longer than most, with 30 years elapsing from the lines going on the plan to her bright-orange hull hitting the water in late 2023. And, again like many boatbuilding projects, this is not the end – rather, it’s another step on the journey which will keep her owners, Derek and Janine Grul, happily occupied for a few more years to come. A walk on the wild side... I essentially grew up in my late father’s agricultural engineering workshop. My brothers and I started jetboating at a young age on the braided rivers of Canterbury – roped in to make up crew by adventurous uncles. While there were lots of exciting trips, I also remember us being jettisoned as excess ballast and left to cool our heels in the riverbed under a baking sun until picked up again on the downriver journey. Six years ago Simon Justice sat in his classic timber launch, wondering whether she was worth the trouble. The elderly Ford engine had spewed oil from every orifice and seawater from the leaking stern gland sloshed through the bilges. Peeling paint, dodgy wiring and unreliable systems were crying out for work. A lot of work. A depressed Justice considered his options. Something much better was required. Another secondhand boat didn’t appeal, and he decided he’d be better off building a new one. His needs were simple: a boat to go fishing and diving that could be handled alone, take two others if required, and most importantly, one that was fuel efficient and had an easy motion. And it shouldn’t cost more than $100,000... Read the full story on our Boating New Zealand website >> https://lnkd.in/guSdSejn

There’s no way you’d mistake the Sessa C47 for a boat designed and built in New Zealand – or Australia, the USA or Asia. It’s dynamic, sporty lines are clearly European. And of all the European nations, it’s arguably the Italians who are the most stylish, which explains why this boat exhibits such Ferrari-like vibes.
