It's World Digital Preservation Day! This year's theme is Preserving Our Digital Content: Celebrating Communities. Data is a taonga (treasure). At Catalyst, we're proud to support different communities in protecting and preserving their collections to ensure access for future generations. Rōpū kohinga at Catalyst specialises in caring for collections with technology. They work with communities to ensure their collections are managed and accessed securely and sustainably for the people who need to access them. Aleisha Amohia, Rōpū kohinga technical lead, shares insights on how to preserve Indigenous collections with technology in our blog post: https://lnkd.in/gYQyjiBp Part of preserving collections is also through hosting choices. When hosting with Catalyst Cloud, your data is hosted locally in New Zealand and only subject to NZ laws. Learn more about how Rōpū kohinga ensures New Zealand collections are sovereign:https://lnkd.in/gdWpt4q9 Interested in learning more about collection preservations? “There's connective tissue that wraps around every cell in our body and pulls it all together, and then we have a human. I think of a portfolio as pulling all your learning together... and then to tell a story"- Dr Sonja Taylor (Portland State University). In the latest ‘Create. Share. Engage’ episode, Dr Sonja Taylor and Prof Dr Candyce Reynolds (Boise State University) discuss how they use social media to teach their students reflection, digital citizenship, and digital literacy skills. As they create portfolios themselves, they share insights into their and their students' practice for professional growth and academic development and how they get to know their students better. The podcast 'Create. Share. Engage.' is hosted by Kristina D.C. Hoeppner, Mahara project lead. If you'd like to learn more about portfolios, contact our team to discuss how Mahara could support your learning strategy. https://lnkd.in/gkgifmpB #ePortfolio #HigherEducation #EdTech

Community is at the heart of open source software. When communities can come together to share resources, experience, and passion, it can enable more meaningful collaboration. One example of this is KohaCon, the annual Koha conference for Koha developers and users. At events like KohaCon, attendees can: • understand how Koha is used in unique and creative ways • generate support for new ideas or changes to the platform • grow and strengthen the global community of Koha developers, supporters, and users • have strategic conversations in person. All developments in Koha have been requested by a person or organisation, so each enhancement solves a problem for a real user. KohaCon provides an opportunity to create those connections and to continue to build the library system for the community that uses it. Aleisha Amohia, Rōpū kohinga technical lead, shares the power of collaboration in the GLAMR sector and her experience at the KohaCon24: https://lnkd.in/gVABTKAr #GLAMR #Koha #LibrarySystem

How many people can publish content on your LMS? Do they all follow the same review process before something goes live? A typo, broken link, or outdated content can take learners out of their workflow. So, if you don't already have a quality review process, start small and grab the low-hanging fruit. For example, check if all videos still load. Learn more about establishing a quality review process in our blog post: https://lnkd.in/gDmMTyNA #LearningAndDevelopment #eLearning #InstructionalDesign #CourseDesign

Before 2019, Tonga never had a public library. Libraries were a new concept before the Kolovai Library opened. Lil Green, the current volunteer librarian, shares that “The Kolovai Library is a real treasure here on the island. There are many strings to the bow that make this unique resource sing.” And, in the last four months alone, there’s been a 115% increase in library patrons. Founded by Kahoa and Brendan Corbett back in 2019, the library was made a reality with donations from more than 50 Auckland Council libraries. Five years on, the Kolovai Library is a thriving community space where library users can borrow books, DVDs, bikes, use laptops, do arts and crafts, and take music lessons. To catalogue their growing collection, the Kolovai Library uses the Koha library management system. We are proud to support them by hosting and sponsoring their Koha instance. Recently, we spoke to Lil Green, the current volunteer librarian, Loni Fifita, the first volunteer librarian at the library, and two local students Matai and Christian.
