After making the giant decision to leave my beloved full time corporate job to go out on my own and start City Style Co - I was at a family lunch chatting about my future plans. I vividly remember having a conversation with my Uncle, who is a very successful and very respected international businessman.  I talked through my business concept, what I had arranged so far and what projects I had in the pipeline - and ended with "But if it doesn't work out, I'll just get a part-time job." In his charming and calm manner, he replied "Why are you thinking about plans B, C and D? You should focus only on plan A." And to this day 5 years later - it's the number 1 piece of advice when I was starting out in business that has stuck with me, I can still hear his voice and the confident manner in which he delivered his wise words.  I have shared this story with others going through similar doubts and fears, only to be told months down the track that this story was what helped them to really focus in on the goal at hand. Running a small business is a wild ride, but amidst all the hustle, I’ve made it a point to commit to hitting the gym every day. Starting a business is one the scariest things you'll ever do... After the exciting but terrifying choice to start my business at the end of June in 2019 - this was me, working from a dining room table in 2020 when COVID shut down the world, tenderly wondering if I had made the right choice to leave a wonderful role I had been in for many years prior. I had been working my full-time corporate job in the daytime followed by setting up and styling Air BnBs and renovation design in the evening. It was a SLOG, I almost drove myself into the ground working such long hours but the reward of building something for myself was the fire that kept me going. Now reflecting back on the past five years, it has been a humbling journey of many challenges, celebrations and growth, fuelled with determination and a constant stream of creative energy to bring our design visions to life. It's incredibly fulfilling to see concepts come alive. To our dear clients, suppliers, trades, family and friends - you have been instrumental in this journey. Your trust, support, and belief in our business has been the driving force behind our day to day. Renovation case study = St Albans, Christchurch.  Working alongside our clients and their builders for this project, we first visited this St Albans house to look at what areas needed attention; this property was dated and drab as well as required some repair. The scope of works included a full interior & exterior repaint, new kitchen, new bathrooms, flooring, lighting, window treatments and landscaping. We picked the colour palettes, fittings, fixtures and window treatments in a balance of preserving the character charm while updating the overall vibe of the home to a light and contemporary feel. One of the major changes in this renovation was the update of the Kitchen area. The ceiling was lowered and included the addition of new LED downlights and feature glass pendants to refine the look of the space and create a cohesive flow between all of the rooms seamlessly. New and functional cabinetry was installed with a focus on a larger flat breakfast bar to provide a better working and entertaining area than the previous allowed. Our clients loved seeing this property elevated to a modern and charming home, that went on to lead a successful sales campaign resulting in new owners calling the property home and our clients onto their next project.
